HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 1, 2010 by Cato

At this time last year we were told that conservatism was dead.  The mainstream media was even claiming:

WE’RE ALL SOCIALIST NOW.

My, how things have changed in such a short period of time.

2010 can truly be a HAPPY NEW YEAR, but it will DEPEND ON YOU!  We’re in a war – a WAR OF IDEAS.  To win this war, you need to stay informed, and stay involved.

Does this explain a lot about our friends at DelawareLiberal (and leftists in general)?

We Love Kratovil – The Hypocrisy of Maryland’s “Independent” Blogosphere

October 28, 2008 by Cato

Liberals believe in something.  Unfortunately, the policies that they believe in have proved a failure.  That said, at least self-identified liberals (or “progressives”) are willing to stand up for what they believe in.

However, liberal Democrats can’t get elected by admitting what they believe in, so they claim to be “independent” or “moderate”.  Some members of the blogosphere have decided to take a page from the Barack Obama / Frank Kratovil playbook and claim to be promoting “a different kind of politics” while in reality peddling the same old socialist solutions.  ShoreIndie has become the Maryland blogosphere’s leader in this re-packaged hypocrisy.

ShoreIndie attacks conservative candidates for myriad sins and claims that they practice deceptive advertising.  Fair enough.  Unfortunately, ShoreIndie is incapable of distinguishing statements of fact from opinion.  He doesn’t even appear capable of distinguishing a baseless opinion from an informed one.  Of course his pals, like liberal congressional candidate Frank Kratovil, NEVER say anything that isn’t gospel.

Case in point – a series of videos ShoreIndie posted on YouTube of the first Salisbury debate between Andy Harris and Frank Kratovil.  It’s important to remember that ShoreIndie did not post these until last week, long after the debate occurred.  Therefore, he is unable to claim that he is unaware of subsequent statements of, or actions by Kratovil.

We’re using his video on “the Bailout” as an example.

The Big Issues

October 9, 2008 by Cato

Have you ever noticed that character and judgment are considered off-limits for Democrat candidates?  In 1992 we were told that these weren’t valid matters for discussion when we had to worry about all of of those “Big Issues”.  Of course, those very same issues (character and judgment) were what crippled the Clinton administration in its second term.

Barack Obama is attempting the same tack.  Granted, there are no accusations of womaninzing (that I know of).  Far more disconcerting than Clinton’s use of cigars is Obama’s world view and the people who helped form and promote that world view.

Our Red Maryland colleague Mark Newgent has a superb piece on this issue.  Obama’s complete lack of candor regarding his relationship with an unrepentant domestic terrorist should disqualify him from the Senate, much less the Presidency.  His relationships with a pastor who seems to hate America and with groups who support a socialist, if not Marxist, agenda should at least give pause to our evaluation of “The One”.

What Wayne Gilchrest, and Frank Kratovil, Don’t Want You to Know

September 15, 2008 by Cato

You’ve seen the TV ads, Frank Kratovil is a moderate.  He’s independent.  He’s just like Wayne Gilchrest.  At least he’s right on the last one.  Frank Kratovil is a liberal already in the pockets of left wing environmental activists.  That’s pretty good for a guy who has never served a day in any legislature.

I know, the left will cry foul.  The truth hurts and for some reason the left thinks that it’s unfair to use their own record against them.  However, Wayne Gilchrest is trying to help his new ally Frank Kratovil by hiding the truth from the people of the First District.

Another Great Right Wing Conspiracy Vindicated

September 11, 2008 by Cato

In 1951, Morton Sobol was convicted of espionage – along with Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.  Sobol served 19 years in Federal prison and has always maintained his innocence, until now.

Sobol has now admitted that he, along with Julius Rosenberg, were Soviet spies.  Of course, many of you will say that this is history and of no import today.  Perhaps …

Many of the same people who have protested the innocence of the Rosenbergs continue to do so today.  These same people will claim that Alger Hiss was framed – despite Soviet archives to the contrary.  Bill Ayers was not a domestic terrorist, but a freedom fighter.

What do these people have in common?  Certainly not their support of John McCain for President.

No, I am not claiming that everyone foolish enough to support Barack Obama is a closet communist.  Unfortunately, many are.  They blame America for every ill in the world.  We should lay down our arms and capitulate to our enemies.  Why?  Because our system of government is flawed yet socialist, authoritarian (even totalitarian) regimes are worthy of our praise and support?

The key here is socialism.  The nanny state can somehow take care of us – from the cradle to the grave.  Elitist technocrats can somehow manage our economy where the market cannot.  This is the common thread that seems to bind those that support Obama now, and those who worked to destroy our nation in the past.

The so-called “Great Right Wing Conspiracy” has again been vindicated.  In another 50 years, what sad and disgraceful secrets will be proven fact that are summarily dismissed today?

Barack Obama’s Stealth Socialism

As part of its editorial series – The Audacity of SocialismIDB provides us with some of the meaning behind the words of the great Messiah. Whether it’s “ensuring economic justice”, “guaranteed health care”, “free college tuition”, or “universal national service” Obama’s plans sound soooo nice. They will also lead us, not down the road to serfdom, but straight to a Havana-style government and economy. As IBD so aptly terms it – this is Obama’s Stealth Socialism.

Obama’s plan to micro-engineer our government, our economy, and our lives would deliver us some bizarre, nightmarish hybrid of Hayek’s Road to Serfdom and Orwell’s 1984.

Unfortunately for us, Obama’s political ideology is not based on some amateur Marxism he picked up in college. No, the man who may be our next president learned at the feed of a real, live, soviet-style communist – Frank Marshall Davis: Read more

Socialism – Not Big Oil – Is Cause of High Gas Prices

July 29, 2008 by Cato

You’ve heard it all before. Big Oil is picking your pocket. Speculators are to blame for $4 gasoline. We need to drill less, and conserve more. We need to tax the oil companies more.

True to form, the Left can’t grasp why gas prices are so high because the refuse to acknowledge a central premise of price structure – the free market. It is the very socialism promoted by “progressives” which has been a major culprit in the high price of oil.

Recently, oil prices have dropped a bit. Why? The market is working in America and its citizens are making a deliberate effort to conserve energy in order to save money. A classic case of supply and demand – the free market at work.

Overseas, countries like China, India, Mexico and Venezuela subsidize the price of fuel. What is the effect? A gross distortion of the market.

If It’s Good Enough for Fidel …

… it should be good enough for us.

How many times have we heard from the Left about the marvels of Cuba’s healthcare system? If only we had something so grand in the United States?

Well, Fidel Castro is ailing. Who’s providing Fidel’s care? It sure isn’t the vaunted Cuban system of socialized medicine.

I’m sure Barack Obama and his cadre of Blame America Firsters will find a way to make this our fault. It must be the trade embargo.
