Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling When Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell was elected governor last November, and Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling was re-elected, McDonnell stated that Bolling would be in charge of McDonnell’s plan to bring more jobs to the Commonwealth.  In order to finance the plan, McDonnell’s administration has put forward a $50 million plan to finance more economic development in Virginia.  Bolling will now also be in charge of shepherding McDonnell’s plan through the legislature.

Should Phil Hamilton Resign?

That’s up to Del. Phil Hamilton (R – Newport News).  Until the House Ethics Committee completes its investigation and makes its recommendations, the ball is entirely in Phil’s court.  However, GOP candidates Bob McDonnell and Bill Bolling (along with RPV chair Pat Mullins) should exercise better judgment and keep their collective mouths shut on this issue.

Jim Hoeft and the other guys at Bearing Drift are correct.  McDonnell, Bolling and Mullins are choosing politics over principle; and for the life of me, I can’t understand why.  Speaker William Howell (R – Stafford) has already announced that there will be a full inquiry.  The campaigns of their respective opponents are imploding.  What’s the upside Bob?  Bill?  Pat?  I certainly don’t recall any of you screaming for Mark Earley’s resignation when he was AG.

For purposes of disclosure, this matter hits me hard.  Phil Hamilton is a friend.  I’ve known him almost as long as I’ve known my wife.  In fact, it was Michelle who introduced me to Phil and encouraged me to play a role in Phil securing his first nomination in 1988.  Phil has served the citizens of the 93rd District since he was elected in a special election that year.  He was never conservative enough for some.  He was never partisan enough for some.  Serving ALL of his constituents has been his priority since the day he was elected.

The campaign of Democrat Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds is still attempting to regain its bearings after the recent “Battle Flag Flap” where its campaign manager accused GOP candidate Bob McDonnell of displaying a Confederate battle flag at the Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show.  According to UVA professor and political commentator Larry Sabato, the Deeds campaign will even be “reorganizing”.

According to Sabato:

I received multiple and highly reliable source confirmations throughout the day and evening about the Deeds campaign shake-up. It’s real.

Even Virginia’s blue blogosphere refuses to support Deeds on this matter.  Leading Dem blogger Vivian Paige probably says it best:

Virginia Dems Playing Race Card Early

When you’re behind in the polls far enough, I guess there is nothing that some won’t do.  With the Democrat ticket behind by 8 – 14 points, certain members of Virginia’s blue blogosphere are willing to stoop pretty low.

Not Larry Sabato posted that the Bob McDonnell campaign was displaying a battle flag (a Confederate flag for you Yankees out there) in their booth at the Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show last weekend.  Then Joe Abbey, Creigh Deeds’ campaign manager, started spreading the same story on Twitter.  There’s just one problem – It’s Not True!

As noted by both Bearing Drift AND the Washington Post, the manager of the show stated that the flag was on display in the booth NEXT TO McDonnell’s by a vendor who sold “Confederate T-Shirts”.

Kaine for Veep?

Bearing Drift tackles the potential Obama-Kaine ticket from a slightly different angle. If you think I’m tough on leftists, read here. DCH tackles the “religious faith” of both the Messiah and Kaine. Some folks may consider it bad manners, but the analysis is dead on.

Another interesting question posed by DCH is -

God forbid an Obama – Kaine ticket was elected, what does that do to 2009 GOP ticket if Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling is Gov. Bolling?
