Bob McDonnell – Expressing America’s TRUE Values

On Wednesday Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell delivered the GOP response to Barack Obama’s 2010 State of the Union address.  You can view the speech here:

McDonnell’s message will prove important because he expressed the ideas upon which this great nation were founded and those ideas which have made our nation the greatest on earth.  While Obama wishes to continue throwing hard earned tax dollars (and even more money borrowed from the likes of Communist China) at problems, McDonnell’s message was one of self-reliance, self-sacrifice, liberty, and innovation:

Good government policy should spur economic growth, and strengthen the private sector’s ability to create new jobs.  We must enact policies that promote entrepreneurship and innovation, so America can better compete with the world.  What government should not do is pile on more taxation, regulation, and litigation that kill jobs and hurt the middle class.  It was Thomas Jefferson who called for “A wise and frugal Government which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry ….and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned…” He was right.

Today, the federal government is simply trying to do too much.

While most Democrats and far too many Republicans seek enhanced personal and corporate power through the overreaching hand of government, McDonnell’s message was one reminiscent of Ronald Reagan:

Obama Coming to Charm City

President Barack Obama will be paying a visit to Baltimore Friday.  Obama is scheduled to visit an unidentified small business and address a retreat of House Republicans.  Given that Congressional Dems seem to lock the GOP out of everything meaningful going on in Congress, I thought it was mighty kind of the Republicans to invite the left’s once upon a time messiah.

I was wondering if Obama was going to hand out any “cash from his stash” while visiting Charm City.

Who’s Lying About Health Care?

Americans were promised a TRANSPARENT process in health care reform:

What did Americans receive?  Senate Republicans literally being locked out of the negotiations.  BRIBERY for votes from the likes of Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA).  And now a secret backroom deal to reconcile the House and Senate bills.

In other words … we got OBAMACARE!

Each year Judicial Watch publishes a list of the 10 most corrupt politicians of the year.  While bi-partisan, I’m sure that Dems will be crying foul:

  1. Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT)
  2. Sen. John Ensign (R-NV)
  3. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA)
  4. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner
  5. Attorney General Eric Holder
  6. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) / Sen. Roland Burris (D-IL)
  7. President Barack Obama
  8. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
  9. Rep. John Murtha (D-PA)
  10. Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY)

I thought that the “culture of corruption” ended after the 2006 elections????

Fight Climate Treaty NOW!

In a few weeks newly minted Nobel laureate Barack Obama is expected to sign a new climate change treaty in Copenhagen (sight of Obama’s recent Olympics debacle).  This treaty will, if ratified by the Senate, prove far more insidious than the recently enacted “Cap and Tax” legislation:

Remember, it will take 2/3 of all senators to ratify this treaty.  The time to start calling your senators is NOW!

The Messiah To The Rescue

Will the messiah help Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds make up ground in his uphill battle against GOP candidate Bob McDonnell?  I doubt it.  However, if by some strange turn of fate Deeds does become Virginia’s next governor, Obama will certainly take credit.  If he loses …

At this point, Deeds needs something big.  He appears willing to try anything.

A Season for Action?

Were anyone’s minds changed by Barack Obama’s speech?  There was nothing new, except for a “promise” to make some effort on tort reform (I’m holding my breath on that one).  There certainly wasn’t any detail.

The most interesting part of the speech was Obama’s claims that it would be “deficit neutral”.  Think about it for a moment.  We’re supposed to believe that savings from eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse from a government program(s) are going to pay for this.  If it were true, why hasn’t the Democrat Congress sought those supposed savings already.  Every time a Republican Congress or administration did, AARP told us that they were trying to destroy Medicare.

As for leading to a single payer plan, Obama was denying it right and left, but logic dictates that is exactly what they want.  He claimed that there would be NO subsidy for a “public option”, yet he admitted that government would be picking up the cost of overhead, etc.  I’m sure that if the taxpayers covered the overhead of private insurers they would lower rates as well.

Free Speech Only Applies to the Left

When Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) held a meeting with constituents last Friday the meeting was civil.  Given the leftward leanings of Van Hollen’s district that should be expected.  One question posed by a bastion of the government class:

when medical industry lobbyists might be banned from trying to sink reform

Van Hollen diplomatically responded that there was a little thing called “free speech”:

"There are constitutional issues here," he said. "You can’t say people can’t advertise on TV."

Oh yes you can, at least if you are a statist like Van Hollen, Barack Obama, or their pal Frank Kratovil.  Why did the networks refuse to run the commercial below?  There certainly aren’t any fighting words in those 30 seconds.  You might want to argue over the facts (I think they’re spot on), but isn’t that what a civil debate is about?

Free speech exists.  If you adhere to the left wing orthodoxy of people like Chris Van Hollen.  if not, expect to be attacked … or silenced.

It’s An Emergency!

September 1, 2009 by Cato

What do you do when you’re driving the nation’s debt by trillions of dollars at time?  Screw your core constituency of course!  At least that’s what you do if your name is Barack Obama.

While the statist messiah of big government refuses to acknowledge a war on terror, Obama has no problem with declaring a “national emergency”.  Why?  By declaring an emergency, Obama has the authority to not pay federal employees their annual in-grade increases.

While I believe the federal government has far too many people on the payroll and am opposed to a system that rewards people automatic pay increases based on seniority I also believe in the rule of law.  While George W. Bush used the same tactic after 9/11, Bush acknowledged a true emergency.  Obama doesn’t even want to continue with the annual 9/11 memorial observance.  So Mr. President, what’s the emergency?

The country knows.  It’s an emergency of your own making.

Would You Trust the Post Office to Deliver YOUR Health Care?

August 20, 2009 by Cato

Barack Obama recently argued that private insurance companies would be able to compete under a “public option” ObamaCare plan:

"I think private insurers should be able to compete…I mean. If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems."

Exactly.

For a moment, let’s forget the fact that, as is often the case when off his teleprompter, President Obama is wrong.  The US Postal Service is protected from competition except for parcels and overnight delivery.

Let’s take a fair, realistic look at the rest of his statement:  “It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.”
