Obama’s Oil Drilling Moratorium Has Cost 23,000 Jobs

Barack Obama wants MORE spending to aid the economy.  Yet, he didn’t hesitate to put an estimated 23,000 people out of work “for the environment”.  That’s the cost of his administration’s decision to stop drilling in the Gulf.

I guess a job’s not a job unless you work for the government.

We were told that this was necessary because we were facing the greatest environmental disaster of our lifetimes.  Well, it seems that wasn’t exactly true.  However, Obama followed Rahm Emmanuel’s advice – never let a good crisis go to waste.

The Decline Continues …

August 27, 2010 by Cato

I guess it’s still all George W. Bush’s fault!

High Unemployment Continues.  Home sales are in decline.  Auto sales fell through the floor after Obama’s “Cash for Clunkers” program ended.  Used car prices are unnaturally high thanks to government interference in the market.

What do these little factoids have in common?  Liberal interference with the free market.

Who’s at fault?  OF COURSE, it can’t be the sainted Obama.

If Republicans were out of power for DECADES.  The left and the media would STILL somehow manage to blame George W. Bush and the GOP.  One thing is for certain; FACTS mean nothing!

When All Else Fail – The Politics of Fear

Taxes go up in January.  Unemployment is still hovering at 10%.  The economy is still in the tank.  The deficit has soared to an unheard of TRILLION dollars.  What’s a Democrat to do?

Go back to the playbook!  The politics of fear seems to work when all else is failing.

Their policies have been complete failures.  If they run on their record, few Democrat seats are safe.  So ….

During his weekly radio address, President Barack Obama gave us a glimpse into this fall’s mid-term elections:

IF YOU VOTE REPUBLICAN OLD PEOPLE WILL DIE!

Seniors freezing in the cold, eating cat food; that is the image Barack Obama and the DNC want to paint for this fall’s election.  Why not?

As Erick Erickson points out in RedState – it’s a replay of 1994 all over again.  Fortunately, it didn’t work then.  Hopefully, it won’t work now.

ObamaCare – The Future Is In Massachusetts

MPPI’s Marc Kilmer gives us a glimpse into Maryland’s future.  Simply look to the north.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney promised many of the same things to his voters regarding RomneyCare that the messiah promised to the rest of America.  Have they come true?

Health care costs continue to rise in the socialist paradise of Taxachusetts.  Emergency rooms are still overcrowded, despite promises from Romney, and now Obama, that this problem would disappear.

One problem faced in Massachusetts that the feds won’t have to face – at least in the immediate term – is the huge shifting of resources into health care from other programs.  The anointed one will simply borrow until US sovereign debt shares the same risk rating of Greece.

The problem is, it may be too late to do anything about it then.

It’s A TAX! – ANOTHER ObamaCare Lie

Remember when the messiah told Americans that no one earning less than $250,000 would receive a tax increase?  Remember when we were told that the ObamaCare “individual mandate” “WAS NOT a tax”?

Well … when the Obama administration is trying to defend the constitutionality of the mandate, they are telling the courts that it is a TAX.

No federal funds for abortion.  Not a tax.  Is there anything about ObamaCare that ISN’T a lie?

Maryland To Begin ObamaCare Abortions

Last week we informed you that the Federal government would begin funding abortions in PennsylvaniaMaryland will become the second state to begin funding abortions through ObamaCare.

Maryland will join Pennsylvania as the second state to use federal tax dollars to pay for abortions under the new health care law signed by President Barack Obama in March, according to information released by Maryland’s State Health Insurance Plan.

Maryland will receive $85 million in federal funds for its federally mandated high-risk insurance pool, which will cover abortions. As CNSNews.com reported on July 14, Pennsylvania will receive $160 million in federal funds for its high-risk insurance pool, which will also cover abortions.

During the debate over the health-care bill, President Obama delivered a speech to a joint session of Congress, saying: “Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.”

I wonder what Bart Stupak would say now?

According to a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) fact sheet published by MHIP, its new Federal Plan will offer the same benefit package as its state-funded plans. “The MHIP Federal Plan offers the same benefit package as other MHIP plan options,” that document states. All five of MHIP’s plans cover abortion, including one plan that requires no co-pay if the abortion is performed at an out-patient abortion clinic, according information found on page 53 of the 2010 MHIP Certificate of Coverage.

Conservative Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) has called for Congress to pass legislation blocking the use of federal funds for abortion:

"This is one more example of a broken promise in ObamaCare,” said Pence. “It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life and it is reprehensible to take taxpayer dollars from millions of pro-life Americans and use them to pay for abortions.”

Pence urged Congress to enact new legislation to stop abortion funding through the health-care law.

"I call on Congress to act quickly on critical legislation by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) to stop the administration from using ObamaCare to fund abortions."

Remember what the socialist messiah told us about ObamaCare and abortion –

“This is a health care bill, not an abortion bill.”

Well, it took a while but the truth is finally starting to come out:

When You Can’t Argue the Evidence, Make It Up As You Go

After all of the video evidence, after all of the testimony, I am amazed that ANYONE would still defend the Obama Justice Department’s decision to drop the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party and a few of its more “enthusiastic” acolytes.  Yet …

There are just some people that will hold to that leftist line no matter what.

How Big A Sham is Obama’s “Race to the Top”?

April 4, 2010 by Cato
Filed under Education, National, National Politics

We all know that the federal government really has no business meddling in education.  Yet, when we listen to President Obama’s rhetoric regarding his “Race to the Top” program, it all sounds so wonderful:

  • More charter schools.
  • More accountability for TEACHERS and schools.

Yet, here is what is actually happening:

It’s not the federal government’s job to set state and local education policy, but if it’s going to do so, it should at least put its muscle to good use. Initially, it appeared that this was what the Obama administration was doing with Race to the Top: In the scramble for federal funds, education secretary Arne Duncan promised, states that capped the number of charter schools would be at a disadvantage, and states that banned the use of student test-score progress in teacher evaluations wouldn’t even be eligible. But the finalists for the first round of funding have been announced, and results aren’t promising: New York, which both caps charter schools and bans the use of student test-score data in tenure decisions, is on the list; so is Kentucky, which doesn’t allow charter schools at all. Meanwhile, the process has been shrouded in secrecy: Neither the judges’ names nor the states’ actual scores on the 500-point scale will be released for another month. We’re awaiting announcement of the winners, but so far, Race to the Top is stumbling out of the gates.

How big a sham is “Race to the Top”?

Should We Heckle Obama?

April 3, 2010 by Cato

Harken back to the 2010 State of the Union Address:

President Obama attacked the Supreme Court with them sitting before him.  I wonder how Obama would feel if a GOP Congressional majority booed him at the 2011 State of the Union?  Yes I know, two wrongs don’t make a right.

This is was National Review had to say about Chief Justice John Robert’s remarks on the matter:

Chief Justice John Roberts, belatedly responding to the president’s State of the Union address, said it was “troubling” for the justices to be surrounded by hooting and hollering critics of their campaign-finance decision without being able to respond. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said it was the Court’s decision that was troubling. (Translation: Democrats think they have found a winning issue.) Roberts was right. Next year, the justices should stay home.

Chief Justice Roberts is right.  So is the NR, the Justices should stay home.
