Are There Limits to Biden’s Arrogance?

Joe Biden wants to be the judge over whether you or I should own a gun. The proud original author of the “assault weapons ban”, Biden has no problem with accusing people who cherish their right to keep and bear arms of being mentally incompetent.
Sorry Joe, that’s what courts are for. I realize that liberals like
you think that judges should legislate and legislators should judge. I
guess that I was wrong when I thought that I lived in the United States
of America.
SPEAKING DEMOCRAT – Reasonable = Liberal, Activist

The new Democrat-speak. You need an interpreter to understand the rhetoric.
Reasonable = Liberal, Activist
Democrats will appoint reasonable judges to the courts.
Translation -
Democrats will appoint liberal, activist judges to the courts.
As the recent Heller decision illustrates, we can scarcely afford the appointment of any more reasonable judges to our nation’s courts.
Thanks to Rep. Thad McCotter (R-MI) for his great video tutorial.

What Kind of Judges Would Mark Warner Vote to Confirm?
June 27, 2008 by Cato

As we noted earlier, yesterday’s 5-4 Heller decision is as frightening as it is uplifting. Virginia’s voters should be particularly concerned.
What if Barack Obama is elected President? What kind of judges would he appoint to the federal bench?
Virginians can rest easy that former Gov. Jim Gilmore would only vote for strict constructionist judges. Would Mark Warner?
Warner is an expert at pandering to a basically conservative electorate. I doubt that he would be so bold as to ever vote for an overtly anti-gun rights bill. That’s not the problem.
I seriously doubt that Warner would hesitate to vote for a liberal, activist judicial nominee who wouldn’t hesitate to strip Virginians (and Americans in general) of their 2nd Amendment rights.
Is Mark Warner too dangerous for the Commonwealth and America?

Heller Decision – Like Getting Hit in the Face With a Bat

Imagine waking up this morning and finding out that you no longer had the right of free speech, or the right to assemble. A few minutes later the police kick in your door – WITHOUT a warrant.
In America? RIDICULOUS!
Yet, today of us are celebrating that the Supreme Court of the United States has affirmed that we have an individual right to keep and bear arms – sort of. Keep thinking about that for a moment and you might become as distressed as I am.
Yesterday’s Heller decision was a 5-4 vote. THINK ABOUT IT! 5-4. Read more

… Reminds Virginians of the Need for Strict Constructionist Judges
Former Virginia Governor, and current U.S. Senate candidate, Jim Gilmore hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the District of Columbia’s ban on possessing a firearm as a victory for the Second Amendment. “Like all Virginia gun owners, sportsmen and hunters I am pleased by the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the unconstitutional ban on possessing a firearm.”
Gilmore, a Board member of the National Rifle Association stated, “I have always believed that personal and responsible firearm ownership is a fundamental right guaranteed to us by the Constitution and we must only punish those who use firearms illegally to commit crimes. As Virginia’s U.S. Senator I will vote to ensure the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens are never infringed upon by the Federal government.”
Gilmore noted, “Today is another reminder of the necessity of appointing strict constructionist judges who properly interpret the Constitution.”

Maryland Sen. Andy Harris (R-7) praised today’s landmark ruling reaffirming our 2nd Amendment rights. For the first time United States history, the Supreme Court ruled that individual Americans have the right to own firearms for personal use. The ruling struck down the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns.
“Today’s ruling is a victory for individual rights and personal liberty.” said Senator Harris, a lifetime NRA member. “Gun-grabbing liberals should take note that the Constitution clearly states Americans have the right to own firearms and the Supreme Court reaffirmed that today”
Harris, the GOP candidate for the Maryland’s 1st Congressional District seat announced his “Prespcription for Protecting Our 2nd Amendment Rights“:
- The right to keep and bear arms is an individual right that cannot be taken away from a law-abiding citizen. Therefore, the federal government does not have the authority to keep records of who does and who does not possess firearms.
- National right-to-carry laws with reciprocity should be enacted.
- The right to self-defense means that every American should be permitted to take any means necessary to protect their home, their possessions, and their loved ones from loss or harm – without fear of government or personal legal action when self-defense is used. Laws confirming that right of self-defense should be enacted.
- Public lands should be made available to citizens for legal hunting.

The Right to Bear Arms – A Fundemental, Individual Right
In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court has overturned the now infamous DC gun ban and ruled that the right to gun ownership in an individual right. GOP Presidential candidate John McCain applauded the court’s decision affirming a “fundamental right”.
As usual, there are loopholes in the decision. The court left room for “reasonable regulation” of firearms. Future legislation and court decisions will have to flesh out the affects of this decision. Hopefully, there will be a quick challenge to New York City’s draconian gun laws. In a city where every criminal has a gun and very few law-abiding citizens are afforded the right, a quick challenge could decrease crime there as it has in “right-to-carry” states such as Virginia, Florida and Texas.
In a discussion on FOXNews, George Washington University professor Jonathan Turley claimed that this was a once in a lifetime event. Today we “witnessed the creation of an individual right”. Prof. Turley is mistaken. That right has existed since the adoption of the Bill of Rights (I would argue before) and what we witnessed today was a bare majority of the highest court in the land affirming one of our most precious freedoms.
I don’t know how old Turley is, but he must be a youngster. I’ve witnessed the invention of quite a few “individual rights” by the Warren and Burger courts and I’m only 47 years old.

In Frank Kratovil We Trust

Kratovil claims that he is not a liberal. I take him at his word. In all honesty, there is no evidence that Kratovil possesses any true political philosophy. Kratovil will pander to any group in order to attain the votes necessary for victory.
Frank Kratovil is the poster child of the post-Reagan Democrat candidate. The Rahm Emmanuel / Chris Van Hollen strategy is to run candidates, like Kratovil, who can campaign like a moderate / conservative yet revel in the total lack of political and moral courage that they may come to Washington and betray their constituents.
Kratovil traverses the length and breadth of Maryland’s First District telling his would be constituents that he will be tough on immigration, protect our environment and protect our 2nd amendment rights. Can he be believed? Read more
Virginia Democrats Truly Respect Our 2nd Amendment Rights
January 28, 2008 by Cato

Virginia Senate Majority Leader, Richard Saslaw (D-Fairfax) gave Virginians a hint as to how the Democrat elite feels about those of us who hold our constitutional rights dear. Saslaw suffered his first legislative defeat when he was unable to ram through Gov. Tim Kaine’s bill to restrict gun rights in the Commonwealth.
On the morning of the the committee hearing he was heard in an elevator to say:
“I see we’re debating the gun bill. Half the cast of ‘Deliverance’ is in town.”
It’s pretty simple. Democrats want to take away our gun rights. They realize that they have to pander to honest, gun owning Virginians in order to keep their seats of office. But when they think that no one is listening, their true views come out.
I’m quite confident that Kaine, and Senate candidate Mark Warner feel the same way as Saslaw. Warner just won’t tip his hand until after the November election.

Will Mark Warner Flip, or Flop?
January 17, 2008 by Cato
Filed under Immigration, Virginia, Virginia Politics
Former Gov. Virginia Mark Warner seems incapable of maintaining a position when it comes to illegal immigration. Last Friday Warner stated that he would have supported the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill had he been in Congress. During the same appearance, he called for more enforcement at the border and stronger employer sanctions.
Of course history has proven that granting amnesty negates enforcement. Even Mark Warner can’t have it both ways.
We can only guess what position Warner will take on his successor’s attempts to restrict the 2nd amendment rights of Virginians. Of course we shouldn’t worry too much. He can always change his position the next day. It will simply depend on the audience at that particular moment.
Next we’ll be hearing press accounts that Warner never increased taxes as Governor.
