Even (Most of) the Canadians Get It

Deficit spending and raising taxes just isn’t the answer. Even our supposedly “more enlightened” neighbors to the north get it. Cutting tax rates and controlling spending are fiscally sane ways to spur economic growth.
I did say “most” Canadians get it. New Liberal Leader, Michael Ignatieff states that he’s ready to raise the GST (the Goods & Services Tax – a federal sales tax). While I believe that American politicians place too much emphasis on pushing consumption, M. Ignatieff should call Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley and ask him how raising Maryland’s sales tax went.

82 year old former PM Baroness Thatcher shows no signs of packing it in anytime soon, but the left is actually debating that she does not deserve a state funeral. Well, I guess since Communism’s collapse they need to be for something.
The woman who was the leader of Britain’s resurgence as a world power should be honored – both in the UK and here. If the Brits totally lose their minds and refuse Baroness Thatcher this last honor, our nation should offer.
When almost every nation of the world (along with our own left-wing) was calling for the US to unilaterally disarm, who stood beside Ronald Reagan and said NO? Who showed the world that a modern, industrialized, socialist country could rebound by cutting taxes, balancing the budget, privatizing pensions and providing real education reform?
Like Reagan, Baroness Thatcher showed the world what leadership and principle mean.

Think the lefties in the US are bizarre? Head north across the border. “The Globe and Mail” reports that a group of Canadian bloggers think that there should be a union … for bloggers.

Conservative. Canada. Oxymoron? Not really. Check out the new conservative journal – C2C.
Thanks to ThePolitic.com for letting us know about this one. C2C seems more Reaganite than most of the ideas coming out of the GOP.

Nicolas Sarkozy has won the French presidency. He defeated Socialist Segolene Royal by a 53.1% – 46.9% margin.
Perhaps we will be able to elect a conservative next?

Powerline reports on Nicholas Sarkozy’s victory in the French presidential election. He will face the socialist candidate, Segolene Royal, in the run-off election.
Why should we care about Sarkozy or the French presidential election? Sarkozy is pro-American, and the closest thing you will find to an free-market politician in that country.
Bon chance, M. Sarkozy.

QandO has an excellent analysis of the EU’s new hate crime legislation.
Hate crime laws are one of my personal pet peeves. How can you punish someone for a belief? Of course, I know that you can but isn’t that un-American? Criminal statutes exist to punish conduct, not speech, and certainly not a belief.
While the article is on European legislation, left-wing Americans invented the concept. Don’t these self-defined civil libertarians realize that if they can prosecute a bigot for being a bigot, one day they could be prosecuted for being a granola eating, pot smoking, commie-lefty?

Joker has a great post on UK Tory Leader David Cameron. I truly hope that Cameron will be the man to lead the UK out of the Labour wilderness. While PM Tony Blair may have been fairly conservative for a Labourite, the government that replaces him surely won’t be.
Joker’s “Hack” is Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI). ‘Nuff said.
