Hoyer Claims To Be “Playing It Straight”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer If you think you’ve heard them all, try again.  House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) claims that the Democrats are “playing it straight” regarding their possible attempt to sleaze ObamaCare into law without making House Dems actually vote on the matter.

I’m pretty jaded, but this one takes the cake:

"We are playing it straight," Hoyer insisted. He said American voters would not care what process Congress uses to enact a sweeping health care overhaul and would focus instead on the merits of the new law.

At the same time, he defended the use of the procedural sidestep, which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that she was considering employing. He cited statistics that, he said, showed that Republicans had used "deeming" process about twice as often as Democrats over the years.

Hoyer did not specify what period of time or what types of legislation were approved using the procedure.

When, exactly, did the House Republicans ever use this tactic?  Honestly, I’d like to know.  IF – and that’s a BIG IF – Hoyer is not lying, I want to know if any of these GOP pirates are still in office.  If they are we should find primary opponents for those guys.  Proposing to pass legislation without actually voting on it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.  It doesn’t matter if the GOP did it in the past, it’s WRONG.  But even IF Hoyer is telling the truth, I guess his Mom never taught him that two wrongs don’t make a right.

I’m a conservative, not a radical.  However, if House Dems actually use this tactic of “deeming” a bill to have passed to force ObamaCare on an unwilling electorate it’s time to take to the streets.

As if there was ever any doubt, the answer is …

BIG LABOR and the LOONEY LEFT

Unstable Isotope” (and appropriate name if ever there was one) over at DelawareLiberal tells all how it really is in the world of Democrat politics:

The party has united behind the bill. 83% of MoveOn members support its passage and organized labor has threatened to primary Democrats who vote against reform. At the same time, the opposition to the bill is weakening and is less organized. The Democratic party’s fortunes in 2010 and beyond are tied up in this bill and I think most Democrats know this.

That’s right folks!  America is OVERWHELMINGLY opposed to ObamaCare; but that doesn’t count.  No – 83% of MoveOn.org members and the SEIU want it.

Boucher to Vote Against ObamaCare?

Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA) The Weekly Standard reports that Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA) will vote against the Senate ObamaCare bill pending in the House.  However, a close read of Boucher’s statement leads me to believe that he is still straddling the fence:

“I am very concerned about a number of things. First, we do not have a text of the legislation before us. That is still being discussed and negotiated. Obviously, I will withhold any judgment until I review it very carefully. I do have concerns about a number of matters I anticipate being in the draft, however,” he said.

Steven Osborne, over at Bearing Drift, asks an important question – What will Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) and Rep. Glenn Nye (D-VA) do?  Personally, I would rather see both Perriello and Nye wait and take a definitive stand than what we are seeing from the likes of Boucher and Maryland First District Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD).

Ken Cuccinelli … On Liberty

While the nation’s “economic pie” can be grown through good economic policies, the “liberty pie” is a zero-sum game – it doesn’t grow or shrink – and there are only two slices:  government power and citizens’ liberty.  If the current notions of centralized health care are enacted, government’s raw power over citizens’ lives will increase, and their liberty will be reduced by the same amount.

Virginia AG Ken CuccinelliSo writes Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in this month’s issue of the American Spectator.  (sorry, the actual article won’t be available online until April)

Cuccinelli is fast becoming one of the leaders of the conservative movement.  While Cuccinelli has been using the power of his office to fight federal tyranny in the courts, he is also using the pen to make a reasoned argument for all that conservatives hold dear.

During the current resurgence of the conservative movement and the semi-conservative populism inherent among the tea parties, some may dismiss the need for the intellectual strength displayed by officials like Cuccinelli.  Don’t be fooled.  Without its intellectual underpinnings, the conservative movement never would have grown beyond the Bob Taft years.

As I have noted here in the past – Yes, it is important to believe the right things.  However, without a firm understanding of WHY we believe what we do, those beliefs will not survive the test of time.  This is precisely why we need elected officials like General Cuccinelli.

Yes, we all know that ObamaCare is bad policy.  We all know that it would be fiscally disastrous.  We all know that the world’s best health care system would be greatly diminished.  Yet, Cuccinelli has managed to succinctly explain why we should fight ObamaCare – even IF these things were not the case.  If we wish to forfeit our God given individual liberty for a promised blanket of economic security then America ceases to be that shining city.  Liberty forfeited is liberty lost forever.

Thanks Ken.

Kratovil Admits Dems Lied About ObamaCare

Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) Embattled Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) admitted that both the House version of ObamaCare is not budget neutral and that his own party misrepresented the fiscal effects of the bill.  Appearing this morning on WICO-AM during the Delmarva Talks show with Bill Reddish, Kratovil agreed with Reddish’s assertion that the bill couldn’t possibly be “budget neutral” given that taxes would be levied for the first ten years, but benefits wouldn’t start until after year 4.

Kratovil then admitted that this was only one problem.  He then noted that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) based their fiscal impact model on something that the Democrats clearly weren’t willing to do.  Kratovil noted that one of the CBO’s assumptions (provided by the House Democrats) was that physician reimbursements from the government would decline by 20% over the next ten years.  Kratovil stated that this wasn’t true; proven by the fact that the House passed the so-called “doctor fix” around the same time it passed its version of ObamaCare.

Kudos to Kratovil for honesty.  It’s amazing what a tough re-election battle brings to the fore.  If only he were so honest about his votes on PORKULUS and Cap & Tax.  Perhaps next time Kratovil appears on Reddish’s show, Bill will quiz him on why unemployment isn’t down as Kratovil’s crew promised.

Americans were promised a TRANSPARENT process in health care reform:

What did Americans receive?  Senate Republicans literally being locked out of the negotiations.  BRIBERY for votes from the likes of Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA).  And now a secret backroom deal to reconcile the House and Senate bills.

In other words … we got OBAMACARE!

The Delaware Board of Medical Practice will hold an emergency meeting today to vote on the emergency suspension of Dr. Earl Bradley’s license to practice medicine.  Bradley, a Lewes pediatrician, has been charged with the rape of 9 children and is suspected of molesting at least 100 children over the last decade.

Bradley is being held in the Delaware state prison in Smyrna in lieu of $2.9 cash bail.  Because Bradley is considered an “imminent danger to the public”, the Board chose to undertake an “expedited investigation” and hold today’s hearing.

"Even though someone is incarcerated, tomorrow they might not be incarcerated," said James L. Collins of the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation.

Appearing last week on FOXNews, former Virginia Governor George Allen outlines how profligacy at the US Postal Service is simply a small example of what we’ll see under ObamaCare.

When you hand over 1/6 of the nation’s economy to a group of people with no accountability (government employees), what else do you expect.  As governor, Allen and his team forced state government to be responsive to taxpayers.  Little wonder many civil servants whined about his administration for years.  Do any of us believe that federal employees will be responsive to our health care needs?

With Virginia’s statewide elections less than two weeks away and approximately 50% of 2008 Obama voters saying that they are unlikely to turnout, it seems Democrat gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds doesn’t quite know what to do.  Reverting back to “Mr. Me Too” won’t drive the left to the polls.  Publicly supporting ObamaCare seems to be the equivalent of standing in the courthouse square and committing suicide:

Where does Deeds stand on a “public option”?  Would you vote for a man who can’t answer the relatively simple questions?

Tort Reform Will Save $54 Billion

Why won’t the Democrats even discuss it?

Obviously they won’t discuss tort reform because trial lawyers rank up there with hedge fund socialists, Hollywood, and Big Labor as primary funders of the coming “People’s Revolution”.  That said, when the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) admits that tort reform would save Americans $54 BILLION over the next decade, it’s something that should be discussed … IF Democrats were interested in health care REFORM.

Unfortunately, the party of Obama is not interested in REFORM.  They are interested in a TAKEOVER.

Oh Canada, Oh Canada!
