Delaware -

Colossus poses an interesting question.  After BHO reduces the charitable deduction, will we then be told what groups we can contribute to?

Delaware is the 26th freest state?  I guess that’s pretty good compared to Maryland (46th).

Maryland -

The Baltimore Sun’s Paul West on the rise and possible fall of Michael Steele.

Re-regulating energy.  Rolling blackouts, here we come.

Red Maryland’s Mark Newgent on climate change.  … or was it global warming?  … the next Ice Age?

Virginia -

Harris will not see RPV Chair.

The McDonnell AG’s office.  Style bodes well for Gov. McDonnell.

Barbara Comstock running for Virginia House seat.

National -

Even Dems are catching on to the bait and switch of the Obama administration.

Following the late Friday afternoon announcement that the ill-conceived, overpriced, hard-to-reach parcel of land that his subordinates had tried to foist on the citizenry as the only spot of land on planet Earth that could possibly serve the burgeoning needs of an exponentially growing Westside populace comprised primarily of children who spring from the womb equipped with a bat, a ball glove and a ball cap, the County Executive raised his wetted finger into the wind and concluded the best time to ditch the deal and distance himself from a Major League faux pas was immediately prior to resumption of the peasants’ weekend long focus on March Madness. After expressing oblique chagrin that the rabble couldn’t see the wisdom of a closed selection process, a sale price Willie Sutton would have approved, and understand the trickle-down economic benefits that would accrue to the seller and whoever held their loan, he ran up the white flag and responded to the dinner bell. Crooked Oak Proposal: Defending the Indefensible

A goodly number of citizens spent Tuesday evening at the Youth & Civic Center in a meeting that permitted proponents and opponents of the aptly named Crooked Oak land purchase to share their thoughts in front of the County Council and on PAC-14. The County Executive did not attend. Some spoke long, and some spoke short. Folks were polite and respectful to each other. The council members listened but made no comments.

Thanks are due to the council members for their presence and attention, and for providing the opportunity for all who wished to speak to do so.

Lo, and behold, look at the oily hairball that the new look, same old deficient content, Daily Times hacked up on Tuesday.

Ace political beat pundit Joe G recently found his way to a clique of Gilchrest fans having a group hug in far off Chestertown. Still crestfallen by their guy’s dismal showing in February’s Republican primary, despite the recruitment of several erstwhile spoilers into the race, they decided that no one more emulated the vibrancy and Nancy Pelosi pleasing perspectives of their fallen Hero of the Taxpayer more than the new Democrat challenger. The fledgling faction was led by one of Gilchrest’s own aides. Translation: since our old buddy the stealth Democrat stumbled, it’s not that big a leap to line up behind the new Democrat hopeful. The Hero of the Taxpayer is politically dead; Long Live Steve the Pirate! Read more

The events of Friday evening and Saturday surrounding the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County have generated a lot of discussion, news source reporting, comments from bloggers near and far, and a public admission statement from Mr. Ruark.

Credit where credit is due: According to reports, Mr. Ruark was compliant with the arresting officer(s). In all but the strictest legal sense (he wasn’t in court under oath) he admitted Saturday in his public statement that he’d used extremely poor judgment Friday evening, and by inference, was guilty. Based on the WBOC internet clip, he didn’t assert that this was a first time event; he did state it would be the last.

As to the question of whether he should resign let’s review what’s known and what’s being alleged:

OK, I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However all parties flailing around about this topic are missing some salient points.

There is a market out there for teachers; each and every school district is more or less competitive than its rivals, near and far, on a variety of factors. Pay is a biggie, but as has been noted it’s not always the only factor at play. Distance to work; district reputation, cost of living in the area, working relationships in the school and district, benefits, etc all play a role in determining if a teacher will even seek employment in a district. If no one applies and you have openings, as an administrator, you have a problem. The task facing administrators is whether to be proactive or reactive about this set of circumstances. The current Board deserves credit for developing and approving the ENP concept. Read more
