In 2008, candidate Frank Kratovil told voters in Maryland’s First District that he would be “independent” and would “reach across partisan divides” to serve the First District and “reflect our values”.  If Kratovil’s first day as a member of Congress is any indication, we can throw that one out the window.

Kratovil’s first stab at “independence” was his vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House of Representatives.  “Little Tommy”, better known as San Fran Nan, surely represents Eastern Shore values – bigger government, higher taxes, more spending on social programs that yield nothing but a larger bureaucracy.  Way to go Frank!

Kratovil also exhibited amazing “independence” by supporting HR 5 – changing the rules to reflect the kinder, gentler Congress of Dan Rostenkowski, party bosses, the House Bank scandal and a minority stripped of almost every right.  Under these rules, committee chairmen are no longer limited to six year terms, almost a sure route to further corruption.

Six (6) Democrats showed their independence by voting against the measure.  Our Frank Kratovil wasn’t one of them.

Great intro Frank.  I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do on immigration, spending and taxes.
