Frank Kratovil – Who Will Pay?

Democrat congressional candidate Frank Kratovil wants to socialize medicine. At last night’s Health Care Forum sponsored by the Delmarva Central Labor Council and the Maryland AFL-CIO we heard a lot about our right to health care.
According to Kratovil, all people have a right to health insurance. How does Kratovil, the man who has promised to cut your taxes AND cut government spending, plan to accomplish this? First, Kratovil’s plan would REQUIRE all Americans to have health insurance.
How can you do this on a national scale? The Massachusetts plan which is the model of Kratovil’s proposal is already proving to be a failure. Kratovil’s plan would require a government bureaucracy of “health insurance police”. Unlike auto insurance, you can’t pull the license plates on someone’s health if they don’t buy a policy.
What if you can’t afford it? Don’t worry. Frank Kratovil wants the government to pay for it. That won’t be a problem because if you work for a small business, you’ll probably lose your job. Since the government is paying for it, I guess Frank’s promise of a tax cut just went out the window.
The bottom line is simple. Frank Kratovil wants to move America into socialized medicine. He will deny this, but there is no question. I don’t even have to argue the slippery slope – which is absolutely valid in this case. No, Kratovil admitted last night that he’s not supporting a single payer, socialist health care model only because he knows that it can’t pass muster in Congress.
Kratovil agreed with Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) that moving health care to a “single payer” model must be “sequential”. Here is the sequence that Frank Kratovil doesn’t want you to know about:
- Kratovil / Cardin requirement to have health insurance
- Federal Government dictates drug prices – Kratovil loves to use the term negotiate. Next time you’re at the doctor, ask them if the Federal government negotiated with them or did the government just send them a table stating what their Medicare reimbursement rate would be.
- Most of population receives government paid health care
- Move to single payer (socialized) medicine – it will be for “efficiency”.
- Government dictates how many people may enter each medical specialty – Sounds great. Ask yourself if you want the government dictating to you what you can do for a living.
- Big Tax Increases to pay for an unsustainable program.
- Employers move offshore in even greater numbers.
- Rationing – need that MRI? Get on a list.
- We’re a long way down the ROAD to SERFDOM
Kratovil’s plan sounds great. That’s the problem with most liberal programs. Big on feelings, lacking in ideas.
The federal government pays six hundred dollars for a toilet seat. Do you honestly believe that they can take over the management of almost 20% of our economy?
Frank Kratovil wants you to believe that he is a moderate, “Independent Thinker”. As we draw closer to the election and he panders to left wing special interests to be financially competetive with Maryland Sen. Andy Harris we are starting to see the real Blue Dog Frank. Kratovil’s vision for Maryland, and America, is an increasingly, and incrementally, socialist one.
Kratovil will stand before you, with his boyish charm, and make it all sound soooo good. Do you really want the government trying to manage this much of your life? Frank Kratovil does.

I happen to agree with candidate Kratovil. As a matter of fact, I think he doesn’t go far enough. If you really scrutinize the Constitution, you will find that we also have a right to automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, and vacation interruption insurance! I admit there is no explicit language that provides the coverage, but I’m certain the Founders intended for it to be included. Oh, I also think (and I’m certain Mr. Kratovil would agree) we are entitled to a daily dole of cold milk & Oreos.
Before he started running for the 1st District congressional seat, Dr. Andy Harris also supported a plan similar to the one in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, in order to get the Club for Growth to finance his campaign, he had to do a flip flop on the issue.
Maybe Andy realized that the program is a bust. It was only one of many reasons why I would never support Mitt Romney for President.
Kratovil admits that this proposal is just a stepping stone to single payer. I don’t know what you do for a living, but do you want the government deciding how much you’re allowed to charge for your services?
People had better wake up or we’re heading for very troubled waters.
