We seriously need to stream line the process of getting nuclear powerplants up and running. The AP1000 is not your grand dad's reactor. There are also a lot of designs that could allow for quick deployment of reactors, like the IRIS project that projects medium sized reactors that are far safer and most components can be manufactured off site and simply installed, due out by 2015. The Japanese are able to get full scale reactors up and running under budget and ahead of schedule. We will eventually be using French and Japanese technology and Areva will be reprocessing all our spent fuel. The Japanese and French have both been experimenting with Molten Salt reactors, invented at ORNL and sold back to us from over seas. This is our fault, not the liberals or the conservatives. It is time to blame the people in the mirror rather than stupidly blaming "the other side."

Don't be too confused, but I am far left of center, and rabidly pro-nuclear. This isn't inconsistent, I think you need to expand your thinking a bit.

The sad truth is that safe nuclear power is the cheapest and most dependable form of energy without the excess red tape.
