Methodist Pastor Spreads Lies and Hate

Like the title? Think it might be a little inflammatory?

The title is no more inflammatory than the foolishness being spread by Rev. David Cassidy of Philadelphia’s African Zoar UMC. Cassidy defends Sen. Barack Obama’s “former” pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, comparing Wright to Martin Luther King and claiming that Wright “spoke the truth”.

Perhaps Cassidy owns a dictionary that I have never seen. More likely, Cassidy is an uber-relativist who believes that opinion, no matter how baseless, is equivalent to truth.

Let’s look at this “truth”. Wright claims that the federal government infected black men with syphilis. Where’s the evidence? While it is a sad fact of American history that the “Tuskeegee experiment” left infected black men untreated, supposedly to study the disease, there is no evidence that the government infected these poor souls.

Depending on which sermon of Wright’s you listen to, the federal government either invented HIV or simply helped to spread the disease. There is certainly no evidence that the US designed a retro-virus which had its origins in Africa. Given the leftist “nanny state” mentality of people like Wright, he may actually believe that the US government helped to spread the disease by not dumping billions more of tax dollars on research and treatment. Of course, I wonder what Wright would have said back in the 1980’s when many were calling for HIV to be treated like the public health crisis it was by using tried and true methods such as quarantine and tracing sexual contacts?

As for comparing Wright to MLK, Cassidy (and the UMC by association) should be ashamed. Wright translates “I have a dream” into GD America!.
