Earth to Comegys and Shields - Evidently People Do Care

I’m not usually one to talk of reader stats. I tend to leave that to my friend Joe Albero. However, after last night’s live blog of the Salisbury City Council AND recent comments by the likes of Tilghman sycophants Gary Comegys and Shanie Shields to the effect that people don’t care about what the Tilghman RUBBER STAMP (plus Councilwomen Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen) are doing, I decided to do a little research.

Yes Gary, it’s true that council meetings are sparsely attended and relatively few people get up to speak. It’s also true that there is no accurate method to determine how many people are at home watching on PAC-14. But I do know how many people bothered to tune in to our live blogs:

live telecast on PAC-14

no live telecast of Budget Public Hearing

May 27, 2008 -

229 Unique Viewers
93 Read Replay (within less than 12 hours of end of meeting)
live telecast on PAC-14

These Live Blog Events (concurrently published on Salisbury News and Delmarva Dealings) were not publicized ahead of time (maybe a few hours in the case of the Public Hearing, which had the lowest number of unique viewers). It also appears that there is a strong correlation between having a live telecast and having a larger number of viewers of the Live Blog.

It appears that Comegys and Shields are wrong. Evidently a fair number of people do care. They just don’t want to show up at a meeting to be berated by the likes of you or Louise.

I also want to thank our good friends up north at CoverItLive. These are the folks who provide us with the technology to put on Live Blogs.
