Wicomico County Councilwoman Stevie Prettyman surprised all in attendance (and those of watching on cable) by dropping three six-packs of beer on the council table near the end of Tueday’s County Council meeting. It seems that Mrs. Prettyman purchased the beer at the three county liquor dispensaries. Yet, under a 2004 agreement with the county the Wicomico County Liquor Control Board had promised not to sell beer which places the county in competition with local businesses.

When this was brought to the attention of the other council members, and County Executive Rick Pollitt, all agreed to support Mrs. Prettyman’s proposal to contact the LCB and persuade them to honor their prior agreement. As Mrs. Prettyman emphasized, the LCB is not acting illegally. However, an agency of the county government should not be in competition with local businesses.

Three cheers for Stevie! Not only for standing up for some of the people who pay the taxes in Wicomico County, but for taking the time to do the leg work. Contrary to what some may believe, serving on Council take a lot more time than attending meetings and going to receptions. Just ask Stevie, or any of the other members.

One problem – She didn’t buy all the beer at the dispensary. The one she claimed she went to didn’t sell bud light then.

    SHE’S A LIAR!
