Baltimore Wants More Gun Laws
Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon and State’s Attorney Patricia Jessamy want more gun laws. Their legislative requests, stiffer prison sentences for gun crimes and having a penalty for not reporting a lost and stolen gun seem fairly innocuous. However, the devil will be in the details.
Stiffer sentences never seem to upset any political class, except for the far, far, far left and the criminal class. The proposal regarding the reporting of a lost or stolen gun could be a problem. Do you want to send someone to jail for failing to report?
If Maryland were serious about doing something about violent crime in general (and gun related crime in particular) they could start by passing two simple pieces of legislation. First, make it illegal for a convicted felon to buy any type of gun. Second, enact RIGHT TO CARRY!
Check out the violent crime rates of states with right to carry. I know that the nanny states will never accept a citizens right to protect him or her self, but the fact that a law abiding citizen MAY be packing seems to make it less likely that someone will stick a gun in their faces.
