Is Mike Pretl Going to Be Named An Appeals Court Judge?

Rumors are circulating that Mike Pretl will be Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s pick to the regional seat for the Maryland Court of Appeals. While I have not been able to confirm any of this, it is reported that Pretl’s house is up for sale in anticipation of a move to Annapolis.
Would such a move surprise me? Unfortunately no. The former Wicomico County Council candidate is perhaps the most left-wing citizen in Wicomico County. To call him a liberal would be an insult to far too many people. His involvement with the infamous “Wal-Mart Bill” and overall general belief that big government is always better (except perhaps for things like national defense) are legend. While he claims not to support “socialized medicine” his solutions to health care seem to always work their way back to a government run system.
In addition, it should be noted that Pretl is not a sitting judge nor a resident of the Shore for any length of time. Appointing him to a regional seat on the court would be the type of travesty which we have come to expect in Gov. O’Malley’s short tenure.
Stay tuned.

Cato:
FYI –
Few if any of the “Magnificent Seven” actually reside in the place where they “work”, and he might have to reside in the region of the state that he “represents” on that court.
He may plan to have a second home in the Annapolis area and want to downsize his residence (currently in an upscale neighborhood — Foxchase) or relocate nearer to the Bay Bridge to reduce his drive-time to the office. After all he has no real roots here.
If the judicial scenario comes to pass, it won’t be the first time someone from Baltimore moved to the Shore to get a appellate appointment.
Thanks for posting the storm warning.

AN appellate appointment, please!
