Does Louise Smith Keep Her Word to the Public? A Multimedia Answer

Salisbury Council President Louise Smith ran for office telling the public that:

“I believe that Salisbury’s elected officials should be more responsive to citizens and more responsible with our tax dollars. I am equally concerned with public safety, removing contention and government in the sunshine. “

Has she kept her word to the people who elected her?

The evidence of just this week is clearly NO! Ms. Smith is not responsive to the citizens. She proved her responsibility with your tax dollars right out of the box by voting to enable a double digit tax increase without even reading the budget (by her own admission).

At Monday’s Salisbury Council meeting she showed her constituents that she will not be responsive to citizens, particularly if that means putting a leash and a muzzle on Mayor Barrie Tilghman.

As the video shows, rather than force the Mayor (who is a guest at council meetings) to abide by the rules of procedure and Ms. Smith’s infamous Code of Conduct she admonishes Mr. Spies to “stay on point”.

As noted yesterday, Ms. Smith doesn’t even respect her constituents enough to stand up and be truthful when faced with opposition. She is quoted in the paper as stating that, “Residents want it (the newly criminalized noise ordinance) pushed in before the college kids come back”. That very evening she states that SU students are NOT the target of the legislation.

Needless to say, Ms. Smith is neither performing up to the expectations of the voters who put her in office nor is she even bothering to adhere to the the simple rules of honesty and integrity.

The budget (didn’t read it but voted for a whopper anyway because the mayor said so), the government in the sunshine (come on!), the rules of behavior (broken by herself and many others as she fails to control her meetings), the listening and responding to the citizens….. All broken. What’s left?

Whats left? Louise can now make history. She can be the first person to be recalled only 6 months after being elected.

    RECALL…RECALL THEM ALL, NOW.

  3. Pat says:

I agree Donna we now have 2 for recall only need
another 2998, you know 200-300 would be thrown
out. Need good buffer to make sure her and Gary
get out of there, especially since tax petition
was so close. Don’t need repeat.

The tax petition would have done a lot better if not for citizen apathy and the fact that the majority of the council cried that the sky was going to fall without the tax hike, no Zoo, no police.

They got the tax hike then stiffed the police officers for half their raise now and the rest next year. This administration would stick a pig if they thought it bled tax revenue. Louise also broke her promise to the fire department and EMT’s.

Now they find $5.8 million just after the audit and budget process that proves there needs to be major changes in the finance debacle….. I mean department.

    Tim,

Someone recently made a good point that if the list had been gone over by someone to remove names of those who are no longer eligible to vote due to death, change in residency, etc., the number of votes necessary to get the issue to ballot last time may have been lower and the effort may have been successful.

That be Mr. Trader, he stated that at a council meeting, he’s one sharp cookie~!!
