Slumlords Siezing Pocomoke

It appears that slumlords are attempting to do to Pocomoke City what they have done to Salisbury.

The Pocomoke Tattler provides insight into “by the head” rentals south of the Pocomoke.

Cato,

Please allow me to clarify, the slumlords have actually divided the homes into five separate apartments, and each apartment is rented in the $500 range per month. It’s not the by the head nonsense they do in OC and Salisbury, but for a family oriented city, the places are atrocious. They don’t qualify for federal assistance not that we need anymore of those either.

And so opens the big can of worms in Pocomoke. Those of you who have followed the last ten years of complaint, discussion, favoritism, blatant disregard for zoning and law, and under the table dirty dealings between the Council, Mayor and landlord community in Salisbury know that money talks and homeowners in rental-converted neighborhoods walk.
The policies by the Dream Team council, led by gavel-wielder extraordinaire Mike Dunn and doofus par excellence Gary Comegys, as dictated to them by Mayor Tilghman and her landlord, banker, insurance agent, investor cabal, have destroyed neighborhoods, leaving some streets with fifty houses on them completely rental, many, many of those houses former architectural delights, now illegally renting by the head for outrageous sums.
A house condemned last year by the City’s Code Compliance and Neighborhood Services Office, a 1700 square foot house built in the early 1800’s and located on Camden Avenue, was found by the inspector to have 60 people living in it. Yes, that’s sixty! The violations included holes in walls, floors, leaking toilets and pipes, a stairway with a fire exit nailed shut, broken or missing windows, doors that wouldn’t open etc, etc. And it was only after a ton of complaints from neighbors that this house was inspected and the violations found.
If you in Pocomoke are just seeing the blatant disregard for the law and human living conditions, now’s the time to rise up and do something about it, with a good attorney to advise (one that has NOTHING to do with those in political power), a solid group of leaders and a bunch of good people to carry the torch through the entire process, which, if it’s anything like Salisbury, will be a long one.

And about that 1700 square foot house. At a rent of $50 per week (a low estimate) per head, we have a yearly sum of $156,000 paid to the O.C. LLC landlords. How’s that for making the most of your investment? And here’s what’s happened to the property since Spinnaker Investments unloaded it to a small time landlord who defied building code and permitting:
Seller: SALISBURY NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSING Date: 07/24/2006 Price: $56,686
Type: NOT ARMS-LENGTH Deed1: / 2639/ 273 Deed2:
Seller: HALL, JOHN H R Date: 06/30/2006 Price: $55,000
Type: NOT ARMS-LENGTH Deed1: / 2629/ 141 Deed2:
Seller: SPINNAKER INVESTMENTS LLC Date: 09/28/2005 Price: $25,000
Type: NOT ARMS-LENGTH Deed1: / 2478/ 108 Deed2:

I recall a house fire in Salisbury back in July that had 8 families living in what was originally a single family home (owned by GNI) It had already suffered fire damage . These slumlords have no conscience, just like the Barrie Tilghman regime.

“These slumlords have no conscience, just like the Barrie Tilghman regime.”
