O’Malley Fails to Uphold Oath of Office

Bill Streiff at “Red Maryland” makes an interesting point about Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s seeming refusal to enforce the state’s death penalty statutes.

As someone who is vehemently opposed to the death penalty I have to agree with Streiff. O’Malley needs to fulfill his oath of office and issue new regulations for executions. If O’Malley wants to, I assume that he has to power to commute the death sentences. If he refuses to do so, then he is obligated to uphold and enforce the laws of the Free State.

This is another sad example of liberalism. You can pander and claim your opposition to the death penalty, but you won’t do anything about it because it’s not politically expedient. There are no excuses her Governor. You do not need the approval of the legislature to implement new regulations and you don’t need their consent to commute death sentences.

Get off the fence and do your job!
