Fred Thompson Chides Giuliani on Guns

Former Sen. Fred Thompson is taking on GOP front runner Rudy Giuliani on gun control. Thompson criticizes Giuliani about his participation in New York’s law suit against gun manufacturers.
Now this brings up an interesting issue. Giuliani is great on defense, homeland security and fiscal issues. He’s weak on social issues and the second amendment. To the best of my knowledge, no candidate has secured the GOP nod in my lifetime without the support of gun owners.
Where does this leave former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney? I can’t imagine any person with a passion about the 2nd Amendment (and there are a lot of us) supporting Romney given his blatant pandering and then being caught at it.
Thompson may have picked a winning strategy. Build a coalition of disaffected groups.

This, among other things, is why Giuliani does not have a prayer in the GOP primary. As soon as the general public starts to tune into the race around the end of October or early November, the Republican base is going to notice that he is a pro-choice, anti-gun candidate who represents all that they most detest.
