In Memorium – Michael Deaver

Michael K. Deaver passed away yesterday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Deaver was one of the true believers of the Reagan administration. Prior to serving as Deputy Chief of Staff from 1981 – 1985, Mr. Deaver served all four Reagan campaigns for the Presidency (most people forget the short-lived campaign of 1968).
Mr. Deaver was a key figure in persuading Gov. Reagan to run for the Presidency in 1976, the single most important event in modern conservatism (the ’64 Goldwater campaign was the birth, but not the most important event). Without Deaver’s unselfish and unwavering service to the Reagan family and to his country, it is doubtful that we would have ever had a President Reagan. Therefore we would have never had twelve years of a Republican Congressional majority, or the end of the Cold War.
Whether you wish to admit it or not, we all owe Mike Deaver an immense debt of gratitude and we should all honor his memory.
