An Interesting Take on the Second Amendment

Thanks to MonoBlogue for promoting discussion of one of our most important rights – the right to keep and bear arms. What I find most interesting is that the majority of GOP Presidential hopefuls take a real and sincere view of our cherished Second Amendment.

You can spot a phony (read Mitt Romney) a mile off. When a politician starts talking about being a hunter rather than wanting to protect a constitutional right you know that they will be one of the first to cave.

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with our freedom to kill Bambi; it affirms our right to protect ourselves, our families, and our property from government tyranny. That was the whole point when our Founders added that little tidbit to the Bill of Rights.

For those of you who want to argue that “well regulated militia” nonsense, keep deluding yourself. Back in the day (the 1790′s) militia were citizen groups. There was no such thing as the National Guard. These tend to be the same people who cheer the application of First Amendment protection to the most perverse forms of pornography. They also seem to be the ones who argue in Sunday school that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of some perceived “lack of hospitality”. These same people also tend to believe that liberty can exist without private property.

Kudos to candidates who recognize that I want my right to keep and bear arms protected. Regulation of hunting is merely a tangential issue.

    Bravo on that call.
The well regulated militia stands as volunteer soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen. It’s up to us to wisely choose those who do the regulating.
