Fireworks Fizzle
Since 1967 the Salisbury Jaycees have sponsored the annual Fourth of July fireworks. After 40 years it appears that there will be a hiatus. The Jaycees announced late Thursday that there will be no fireworks on the Fourth.
Initially there appeared to be a funding problem. That was taken care of by the County and a private citizen. “Salisbury News” publisher Joe Albero stepped up to the plate and offered to underwrite the affair with one provision - that law enforcement officers, firefighters, and their families could attend free of charge. Despite this generous offer the fireworks were still canceled. Citing “logistical problems”, a member of the Jaycees stated that they just weren’t able to put the entire affair together.
Rumors of problems with the folks over at Perdue Stadium can’t be confirmed.
