The MonoBlogue Report

Don’t miss these posts from MonoBlogue. Michael provides us with one of his great summaries of the WMDT forum from Tuesday night. For those of us who missed the Wicomico County Republican Club meeting on Monday night Michael keeps us up to speed.
I guess I have to disagree with Mike about one thing. He highlights Joe Albero’s recent piece on Gary Comegys wife Debbie. Behavior and character are issues. I don’t think that the doctors over at Peninsula Eye Center would be thrilled to find out that Gary’s wife “flips off” one their neighbors across the street because that person has the temerity to display Tim Spies and Terry Cohen signs. Is Gary’s personal history a valid campaign issue? You bet. Is his wife’s behavior? I would argue that it is. Spouses influence office holders whether you want to admit or not.

Damn! I merit my own report! Is this monoblogue Saturday, sort of like Media Monday?
As for your argument – personal history, yes. I wasn’t thrilled about how it was presented but indeed bankruptcy and failing to pay child support are legitimate character issues. On the other hand, I tend to disagree about the spouse and childs behavior being relevant issues. Saying that, though, on the national scene much has been made about spouses and children. Elizabeth Edwards is just the most recent example of this, a line that includes Hillary Clinton, Mary Chaney (the VP’s daughter), Judith and Andrew Giuliani, et. al.
Let’s just say the family issues aren’t those I choose to highlight when I write about the campaign.
I agree completely, the behavior displayed by Debbie Comegys at public meetings and debates is disgraceful and the fact that her husband permits her to behave this way only means he must advocate it. Just like the assault by Mayor Tilghman’s daughter on Rachel Polk was condoned by her mother the mayor, what your spouse or child does reflects on you when you endorse it.
Trailer Trash, you can send them to school, buy them books, put them in expensive clothes and they are still what they are, trash~! You can dress then up, however don’t hope you have to take them somewhere.
I think NancyNurse put the family issue into proper light. They ain’t fair game ’til they misbehave — and the candidate or official defends or encourages it. Now, I don’t hold a candidate responsible fer the actions o’ their offspring or spouses. They’re entitled t’be their own folk.
But the Mayor and Rachel Polk episode’s good example of when family does matter.
As fer Mrs. Comegys, she’s heckled t’help her husband. And takin’ things out on volunteers. Both remind me o’ that ole sayin’: “Ain’t got no class.” Sounds like from Joe’s blog, gettin’ mentioned fer it in the Daily Crime seems t’have put her on some better behavior, what we call “trainable” in the dog world.
