Dewey Defeats Truman

While I have no confirmation, the word last night was that Pulitzer crowd down at the “Tilghman Times” already had an article in the can that declared Gary Comegys as the top vote getter of Tuesday’s Salisbury City Council primary. They were just waiting for the final vote count to dump some numbers into the piece.

Wishful thinking will only get you so far. There should have never been any doubt that Gary would make it through the primary, but the messages of Louise Smith, Terry Cohen and Time Spies obviously are getting through to voters.

Despite a last minute attempt by the local slumlords to push the Barrie Tilghman / Slumlord ticket of Comegys, Ewalt and Atkins the voters came out and showed their preference for a better Salisbury. Round 1 is over. Over the next five weeks Rounds 2 - 15 will be fought. I would suggest that Messrs. Comegys, Ewalt and Atkins break in their walking shoes.

Bubba just barely made it, he was 99 votes away from being a total loser and not even making the first cut. I’m sure the top three will pick up a lot of votes from those four that didn’t make it past the primaries. The general election is also sure to draw a larger voter turnout.

We haven’t even touched the extra $2,000,000 they are tossing out to the Mall developers, it hasn’t been a feature in the paper or TV and many people that I talk to didn’t even know about it yet. The TIF is yet to be hashed over at the council meeting.

Tim, The DT buried this in the next to the last paragraph in the article titled “Old Mall Plan Can Move Forward” on February 27th:

Council President Mike Dunn said he expects the city-only TIF to produce about $16 million. The numbers will be unveiled at the March 5 meeting, he said.

The paragraph before this states that the original TIF was to be $20 million.

It would seem that the only people who turned out in numbers for the primary were those who were convinced that Smith, Cohen and Spies are the best for Salisbury. That’s probably because the Times downplayed the primary, no doubt thinking that would put Gary in the lead. They really miscalculated on that one, but don’t expect that to happen with the final election.

We can’t afford to get complacent now, because the Hounds of Hell are going to be unleased by the Mayor and the miscreants. Exeunt Dunn and Cathcart, stage left. Watch for a huge campaign mounted by the Times to make Atkins/Comegys/Ewalt the winning combination. The battle will now have to be joined against the agitprop that will be pouring out of Mayor Tilghman and the Times.

Yes, the TIF subsidy for the mall owner was once planned for $20 Million, total, in City and County funds, but after the new County Council was elected last fall, they “stiffed” the County portion of the TIF subsidy (about $6 Million) but the “Dream Team” Salisbury City Council members — Comegys, Cathcart & Dunn want to push thru the City portion — and increase that developer subsidy to $16 Million, at the owner’s request, before their term ends in April. Thus, the TIF ordinance probably will be approved (it’s another Dunn Deal) at the 2 City Council meetings in March according to their latest scheme.

I believe that the article stated that the original amount was $20 million including the county’s ante, which the county council has now wisely withdrawn.

Thanks for that info Looted, I don’t get the paper, so I just see what’s on the website. It definately wasn’t front page material for these incumbents, I’m sure they pay dearly to bury that kind of stuff, that should be front page news if you do want an informed electorate.

  7. TimChaney says:

The paper sure did spin that TIF didn’t they? Made it sound like the city was going to give the developers $20 million, then chopped it down to $16 million, instead of increasing it $2 million. The spin doctors at the paper need a tabasco enema. Lmao

  8. nancynurse says:

Mike Dunn was featured on WMDT evening news stating that the majority of the city residents favor the TIF and he was going to pass it–funny how the top three vote getters are opposed to this developer giveaway. And more importantly where the heck is the audit that Barrie Tilghman promised to reveal today?? Do they have the audacity to postpone the audit until after the general election???

  9. candyman says:

The Mayor is in full spin mode–you can tell by her fakey smile and nervous figgets…there has to be a sinister reason for her ramming the mall mess through like this. Who can find out what it is?
