The Tilghman / Comegys Machine Rolls Into the Primary
If you read the letters to the editor in the “Tilghman Times” you would think that all is well in Barrieland. According to people like Karen Gordy you would think that Mr. Comegys and the Mayor’s record is something to be proud of:
- Upgrade and expansion of the city’s wastewater plant. (Way over budget and the bills are still coming in. Of course this doesn’t even include the $130,000+ sludge remediation that the Mayor forgot to tell us about when she announced that the MDE fine was ONLY $10,000)
- Construction of a new HQ for the Fire Department. (Does the city really need a $10 million architectural palace complete with arches, etc. Of course there may be a few other problems in the works that Mr. Comegys and the Mayor don’t want us to know about anyway)
- Completion of the Northeast Collector Road. (First, the infamous “Road to Nowhere” isn’t complete. Second, it’s nothing to be proud of. While the idea may have been great 20 years ago, it now will serve primarily as a conduit for the Aydelotte Farms subdivision. Yet another subsidy to developers)
Gary and his people don’t seem to have much of a problem crowing about nebulous accomplishments in print. It’s only when Gary gets before a group of real, live voters that he has a problem. Then about the best he can do is, “we’re trying our best”.
Unfortunately for Gary his best isn’t good enough; particularly when he has spent the last 3 1/2 years carrying the Mayor’s water rather than trying to do what’s best for the city of Salisbury.

Watched the “debate” replay last night on PAC 14, I actually almost felt sorry for Comegys. Never saw anybody sweat more on TV since Dick Nixon debated JFK. I guess many of the questions posed were drafted by members from SFD….for being one of their own, it sounds to me like they’ve really got one hell of an axe to grind with their boy and his mistress.
However, I still hold to what I said earlier in the week….he may not be articulate, but at least he’s clean (hygenically speaking).
I think the firemen are let down. They thought he was going to be a good Councilman and he turned out to be a running dog for every developer to cross the Mayor’s threshhold. A lot of people listened to these firemen last election, and voted for Gary, and it kind of makes them angry over his betrayal. And the firefighters aren’t rolling in money, either. He’s really stabbed them and the other city workers right in the back.
What is it that they have found in the cranberry bog now, a methane gas pocket? Geesh, not very odd to find gas in the marsh, swamp gas has been around forever, city once again just catching on? Did the MDE really halt contruction of the firehouse site because of the underground gas discovery?
How noble of Karen Gordy to heap praise on Comegys–after all you never know when the J.William Gordy Fuel Company will need another annexation or zoning granted for their Tiger Marts. Do they even live in the city?
