Not Very Wide and An Inch Deep

Why is Gary Comegys running for re-election? The city’s debt is almost maxed out. City Adminstrator John Pick let it slip last year that the Mayor (and Mr. Comegys) need a tax increase this year. Sewer and water rates have risen 10% a year for the last few years and three more increases are scheduled.

The once mighty “Dream Team” has imploded. Mike Dunn and Lynn Cathcart had the good sense to bail. Who does that leave to carry Barrie Tilghman’s water? Gary Comegys.

Unfortunately for Mr. Comegys, the support that the Mayor must have promised him doesn’t seem to be materializing. I’ll give Lynn Cathcart credit for showing up at Tuesday’s forum to give moral support. Unfortunately, Mrs. Cathcart bailed out after it became fairly clear that neither the audience nor the vast majority of the candidates are supportive of the Mayor’s / Dream Team’s policies. Mike Dunn is nowhere to be found. Perhaps he’s raising money for Gary. There are many developers and slum lords that owe Mikey and Gary - big time.

What support Mr. Comegys does seem to have just doesn’t seem very wide nor very deep.

This, from duvafiles, is really disturbing — this matter should be postponed untile after the new council comes in:

Unfortunately for the rest of Salisbury, the Dream Team’s final act has yet to begin, but that will probably occur on Monday, Feb. 26, with passage of the “PRD” rezoning of the old mall.

Hopefully, they won’t be able to do the special “TIF” subsidy deal for the mall owner before the new Council takes office — in other words, this election, including the primary next week, could prevent the City from incurring about $30 Million of debt — and the loss of that amount of general revenue — to bail out the mall owner.
