The Bureaucracy Just Keeps on Coming
Salisbury News reports that Doris Schonbrunner (Wicomico’s former interim Sheriff) has been appointed as Wicomico County’s new assistant county administrator. As the county’s public information officer would not comment, I can only surmise that it is true.
While I am happy for Ms. Schonbrunner, and confident that she will do a fine job I am a bit concerned with a trend I am seeing in Wicomico County government. County Executive Rick Pollitt is pretty busy building himself a nice little empire on the third floor of the GOB.
You have Mr. Pollitt, a county administrator, an assistant county administrator, a paid press secretary in Mr. Fineran. All of this in addition to the department heads and myriad staff. Also, don’t forget the new Council of Governments which has all the markings of a bureaucracy in the making.
Up until now, I’ve been pretty respectful of Mr. Pollitt and his young administration. Unfortunately, the time has come for the County Council to stand up and take notice. When the time comes to pass the budget, serious attention needs to be paid to Mr. Pollitt’s staff and the bureaucracy he seems to be rapidly building.
I have nothing against Mr. Pollitt, but I want a County Executive. I don’t believe that the citizens of Wicomico County wanted an entrenched bureaucratic empire to be built when they elected Rick. Unfortunately, the voters don’t usually notice what has happened until its too late.
