Kudos to Stevie Prettyman for leading the charge to stop the extension of the TIF for the old mall project.  As I have stated earlier, this matter is too controversial not to allow the new Wicomico County Council to deal with this issue.  Ms. Prettyman, Gail Bartkovich, Larry Dodd, Marvin Long and Ed Taylor all did the honorable thing by not allowing this to sail through.

Developer Reimbur$ement$

When is the Salisbury City Council going to try and tackle developer reimbursements again?  I think the specter of an election and that pesky little law about personal liability may just put a halt to this method of giving away your tax money.

Inside Baseball

The Conservative Refuge plays a little inside baseball with some speculation on who will be the next chairman of the Maryland GOP. At first glance, the idea of a one year transitional chairman doesn’t make much sense to me. However, with Maryland’s four year cycle there may me some merit. Read more

A Small Victory

As we posted this morning, the lame duck county council voted this afternoon on extending the TIF for “the Village”. Unbelievably, they decided to table the matter to the new council. The vote was 5 - 2, with Messers. Sarbanes and Dashiell in opposition. I believe that Chip Dashiell would have voted for the motion as well, but I don’t think he wanted to leave his bud Tony twisting in the wind.

The Lame Ducks Come Home to Roost

It appears that the lame duck Wicomico County Council is going to put up a motion to extend the resolution granting tax increment financing (TIF) to “the Village” (old Salisbury mall project).  I can only assume that Tony Sarbanes and his merry men have no shame and are going to make one last stab at the taxpayers’ collective pocket before they ride off into the sunset.
