Give Me An “H”! - for Hypocrisy

While traveling on Wednesday I received a phone call from a friend asking what I thought about Wednesday morning’s “Tilghman Times” article regarding Salisbury councilwoman Debbie Campbell.  As I was almost to Wilmington before my delivery person usually gets around to delivering our paper I had this friend read the article to me.

I found the content of the article to be almost balanced.  Mrs. Campbell made (some of) her views known and we heard the usual whining from the likes of Mike Dunn, Lynn Cathcart and Shanie Shields.

The hypocrisy of these people never ceases to amaze me.  Mrs. Campbell is “mean spirited”, she isn’t a “team player”, she’s “uncivil”.  Of course when Shanie Shields calls her a “backstabber” she knows that she is within the bounds of polite conversation in Barrieland.

When the “council leadership” claims that they prefer to conduct business over the telephone I am left with two questions.  What type of rump meetings are these people illegally conducting over the phone?  Second, if these people are so concerned why did they go out of their way to prevent Debbie Campbell from participating in work sessions via telephone?

As I have stated earlier, for an article from the “Tilghman Times”, this was fairly balanced.  Of course anyone who regularly attends or watches council meetings know that we never get to hear “the rest of the story”.  Where, in either article from Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday do we hear about the citizen opposition to millions in developer reimbursements.  Where do we hear of Mike Dunn’s expert witness stating that the city is under no legal obligation to reimburse developers.  Where is there any critical analysis of a developers claim the doesn’t really need an $11 million road and water/sewer system, but for some reason he can’t build a house until he gets these things.

More to point of Wednesday’s article, why do we never see a story about Lynn Cathcart’s verbal assault on her own constituents or Mike Dunn’s repeated attacks and snide remarks against Debbie Campbell?

The answers lie in the rank hypocrisy of a mayor, her lackeys on city council and their house organ that makes false claims of journalistic and editorial integrity.

Of course it’s perfectly proper in Greg Bassett’s world for Mr. Comegys to send e-mails blasting those who successfully challenged the Council’s illegal rezoning of the “Salisbury Mall”, and that rag of a newspaper actually gave him and the others (Barrie, Dunn and Shanie as I recall) a forum in which to slander the four “Salisbury Maulers.” This is “civility” in Mikey Dunn’s
view.

Flash — there’s a city council election in a few months, when we can turn things around, folks.

We’re left with the blogs for the truth. The Daily Times, for some unknown reason, is held hostage by the Evil Empire. What dirt does Barrie have on Greg Bassett that he can’t print anything she doesn’t like? We’d be back to the colonial-times practice of individuals and groups printing up their own broadsheets, if not for Internet. I guess that’s what these blogs are!

The commissars at the local Soviet, and their mouthpiece, the Daily Insult, are ironically enough, p*mps for developers and landlords, supreme capitalists. If this isn’t the worst of both worlds, I don’t know what would be.

I don’t know how you sleep at night, Mayor and Councilmen (Mrs Campbell of course, excluded), but it must take massive amounts of soporific preparations. Perhaps a tape of Mr Comegys ruminating on the reasons for the latest giveaway?

The “Evil-Doers,” for the city, most likely sleep at night from booze.
