Back to the Same Old Shtick

Back at my first city council meeting in months I found out
that I had missed nothing. The “Dream Nightmare Team” was busy giving away taxpayer dollars like they were beers at a
fraternity party. Mike Dunn had a citizen forcibly removed for “threatening” him. Lynn Cathcart had a major hissy.
The Queen of Barrieland presented a veiled threat to all those who dare to speak in opposition. Basically business a I remember it, except that it was usually Mikey throwing the hissy
fit.

Needless to say, developers got their reimbursements. Kirk Kinnamon is getting his $11 million dollar TIF for a road and sewer line that he had the temerity to claim he didn’t
really need. Sassafras Meadows get a sewer allotment, even though the property is still part of the county. There was something for everyone – if you were a developer.

What did the citizens of Salisbury get? A real sense of shame that they live in town governed by a bunch like the “Dream Nightmare Team”.

Don’t worry, there’s more to come. I’ve got enough material to last until the next city council meeting – when we get to start all over again. I just forgot how tiring watching these people behave can be. I don’t know how Debbie Campbell stands it.

How does Debbie stand it? It beats me, but I’m so glad that she does; continuing to consistently work to provide for her constituents, as opposed to those who work for the FOB consortium.
It may have something to do with her firm grasp on the basic tenets of appropriate behavior, courage, and conscience. Her commitment to these sets her apart from her council peers.
Her parents must be proud.

That episode where Dunn had Mr. Albero evicted is aburd — he made a pointed, but not even mildly threatening remark to Dunn, who simply lost it.

Dunn’s abuse of his position knows no limit.

Watched it on PAC14. It was a whopper, alright.

What an awful display by the Mayor and Council (except, of course, Ms. Campbell). Every one of them–Shanie, Cathcart(ridiculous display last night) and Comegys (attempting way too hard to look intelligent) and Mike (utterly out of control AGAIN) and Barrie being Barrie (not a good thing)– should clear out their desks and simply leave. They are taking this City apart. They are totally over their head. Get out of here, all of you,and let Ms. Campbell get things on track!

Lady Campbell puts up with that crap because she is a sincere person, who wants to do the right thing. And the Lady has a lot of “game” to put up with the trailer trash in this cities administration.

One minute into the meeting last night I knew the Dark Side was going to go ahead and give it all away to their buddies. How did I know? No, I’m not psychic. Mike was listening respectfully while Carolyn Hall, Terry Cohen, Tim Chaney, and I made public comment. He didn’t bring his gavel down once. Whenever he allows taxpayers to speak the deal is already Dunn. Simple.

Debbie Campbell is my hero(ine). She kept in there slugging last night and pulled the curtain of BS aside, leaving Fast Gary looking like he’d been stung by a bee. It provoked Mike into dropping his veneer of civility and led him to beat up on Mrs Campbell. But the funny stuff came last, it’s just that to one sitting there at the time it didn’t seem very funny

Watching Cathcart go ballistic provided my youngsters with a real laugh, as they watched the meltdown on PAC-14. “Did you see her yell at that man with his hand up?!” They were incredulous, thinking only schoolchildren got humiliated like that.

Rule No 1, Mrs Cathcart (and the rest of you worthies): When you have the stage, or the lectern, or whatever, humiliating someone in your audience only makes you look like a fiend. The person you dump on will be forgotten, but you will live in everyone’s memory as a graceless boob who should be kept in the house or muzzled.

Although not a big fan of blogs or these sites, I could not resist a comment on what I viewed on the recent council meeting on PAC 14. When the dream team came into office that ran on the promise of civility, cooperation, and action; well it has not happened. They also wanted to correct the tone and lack of civility that former councilwoman Siggers, and Polk utilized; which contributed to their exit from office. Well now in my opinion that promise has been broken and we are back to business as usual. The citizens and voters of this city should not be happy or pleased with the tone and civility that we are witnessing. I sincerly hope that the entire council and mayor cooperate and stop these pre-school antics that are displayed. The people who have supported the mayor and council in the past, will not and should not tolerate this type of tone an atmosphere in the governing of our city. I emplore the council and all of our elected officials to conduct business in a more appropriate manner. The current tone and cooperation level is unacceptable and must be corrected. I expect and demand proper behavior from our elected officials and our citizens; and right now that is not happening. City council get it together and straighten this mess out.

That was well said, Mr. Webster. I wonder if the Mayor and Council President will respond?

Von Siggers and Rachel Polk were Einsteins compared to these (Campbell) excepted. They had their quirks but they were genuine. I can’t recall who threw the first punch but that catfight between the Mayor’s daughter and Mrs Polk sure didn’t work to Polk’s advantage. One might be forgiven for concluding that race was used against her, and Von Siggers as well.

We forget that Salisbury was the site of a lynching as recently as the ’30s, and that some of these attitudes die hard. For a villainess like Barrie Tilghman to survive past the tenure of Rachel Polk to me is inexplicable without the dynamics of racial prejudice. Hate to pull that card out of the pack, but that’s how it looks to me.

And what do we have in the stead of these two women? Shanie Shields, who doesn’t seem able to draw “her” people (I consider “her” people my people too, because they’re Americans just like I am.) into any meetings, and kowtows to Mike Dunn. She’s a coward, unlike Polk and Siggers, and smirks when Debbie Campbell gets chastised by Dunn and Cathcart for taking an ethical stand. If you are one of the 30 or so people who voted Shields into office, where are you at these meetings? Why don’t you demand that she take a stand for you? Shanie, if you’re smiling at one of these meetings, I’m afraid it means you’ve sold your soul to Satan, and how cheaply!

Folklore suggests that old time bluesman Robert Johnson, sold his soul to the devil to play the guitar, and wrote the song many rock groups still do today, “Crossroads.”

Shannie has sold her soul to the devil to be a “Good Ole Boy.”
