The Martin O’Malley Bridge Walk

Baltimore Mayor and gubernatorial hopeful Martin O’Malley has received a small gift from the Ehrlich administration… if his campaign is able to take advantage of it.

Some genius in the Ehrlich administration scheculed the annual walk across the Bay Bridge for today. Remember, this is the same weekend as Springfest in Ocean City. With one span closed today, traffic should be worse than usual on people’s return to the Western Shore.

While it’s obvious that the Governor didn’t make this decision himself, someone in his administration had to sign off on it. With thousands of cars sitting in traffic the O’Malley campaign could put signs out on the westbound side of Rt. 50 reminding voters of their predicament and blaming Ehrlich. It sounds childish, I know, but little things like this help to put undecided voters into the decided column.

Hopefully for the citizens of Maryland, O’Malley’s people weren’t proactive on this issue. Hopefully, the Governor’s staff won’t allow something like this to occur again.

Interesting sidenote on signs. In 2002 I emailed the state highway administration about the legality of them on state highway property–they said, nope, not legal. I asked could someone take them down then to improve the look of their town and they said most certainly so long as it is on the highway’s actual property and to be careful not to go onto private property. So if the MOM camp tried a dumb stunt like this we could all pull signs :).
