More Wasted Tax Dollars, More Broken Promises

Why is the city of Salisbury planning on paying Jakubiak & Associates to negotiate an annexation agreement between the city and Faith Baptist Church / Vernon Esham? Up until now Salisbury has been annexing everything that is brought to them without the use of a consultant.

Using a consultant to negotiate a large annexation and the resulting development isn’t such a bad idea, if the consultant is going to deliver enough concessions to the city to justify his fee. In the case of this particular annexation that is doubtful. The capacity fees are already set. The hook-up fees are already set. There are no other impact fees presently set by the city. Is Mr. Jakubiak going to get a little piece of open space?

In addition to using more of your tax dollars to help out a friend, wouldn’t Mr. Jakubiak’s time be better spent producing the “annexation plan” that the city just awarded him a contract for? Also wouldn’t it be better for everyone if Mike Dunn kept his word and didn’t pursue any additional annexations until that report is delivered and the council has had an opportunity to act on it?

I’m sure that it’s mere coincidence that Jakubiak is one of Mike Dunn’s “underwriters” over at Delmarva Public Radio. I’m also sure that City Attorney Paul Wilber won’t be taking any pay on this one either.

This is from today’s Duvafiles:

Since the City of Salisbury pays at least $500,000 per year for:
1. An “expert” city attorney”
2. An “expert” planning staff
3. An “expert” city administrator

Why do we need to hire an “annexation consultant”?
