The Budget Tango
We are almost beginning to sympathize with the folks at VOICE. We recently agreed to get involved in the budgeting process and see if any of the folks here could come up with some ideas to reduce spending at the Wicomico County Board of Education and the Wicomico County Government. The depth to [...]
November Is Coming (or Will Wicomico County Become A Dunn Deal?) - I
Before DuvaFiles Monday post about the possibility of Mike Dunn running a stealth slate for County Council I had started a piece about what was needed for the next County Council. The notion of a Dunn / Tilghman / Greater Salisbury Committee / ? orchestrated slate to take over Wicomico County Council makes this [...]
The Most Effective Legislators
Not surprising was Lowell Stoltzfus’ entry as one of the most effective senators. Equally not surprising was Rick Colburn’s entry as the second least effective member of the Senate.
Whine, Teddy, Whine
Teddy Kennedy has really gone over the bend with the Alito nomination. During his little filibuster attempt Teddy had a little hissy fit in the well of the Senate. He wanted to know why the Senate couldn’t debate the nomination more.
Where were you on Saturday and Sunday Teddy? If you wanted to [...]
How To Win Friends and Influence People
Dorchester Sen. Richard Colburn used his famous collegial style in attempting to defeat a bill designed to block a proposed 3200 unit development south of Cambridge - Baltimore Sun
Restore Confidence In The Process?
Where was Ms. Hixson’s concern when the House overrode the governor’s veto and made voter fraud in Maryland as difficult as driving from one precinct to the next?
Duncan Needs To Broaden Base
The Washington Post reports that Doug Duncan is not only the low man on the fundraising totem pole, but that 60% of his funds are coming from Montgomery County.
A Bank for the People
Branch Banking & Trust Co. (BB&T Bank) has stopped lending for real estate developments where the land for the development was acquired from reluctant sellers via eminent domain. - Washington Post
Cloture Passes, Alito To Be Confirmed 11 AM Tuesday
It’s about time. After placating the likes of John Kerry, the Senate has invoked cloture and ended “debate” on the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court. The vote was 72 - 25 in favor of cloture.
The Left believes that they have a campaign [...]
Don’t Miss DuvaFiles!
If you missed reading DuvaFiles this morning, don’t. There are two excellent posts this morning. I don’t always agree with the man, but I always read what he has to say.
School News to Make VOICE Proud
Obviously the people at the Christiana School District use some of the same planning techniques as the Wicomico County BOE. If their construction costs went up 40% in three years then something is wrong. The real estate boom didn’t start yesterday and the resulting inflation in construction costs could have been at least partially planned for. This is a concern that I have about the needed school construction in Wicomico County. If you have a 10 year plan for capital projects and only budget in current dollars you have serious problems.
Vote Early, Vote Often
This is a serious issue. Personally, I wouldn’t vote for a single individual that supports this. There are good arguments for the universal franchise. However, if you make voting so easy that it screams an invitation to voter fraud what is the point of voting in the first place? Viva Fidel!
Ehrlich’s Legacy
The Not So Free State opines on Bob Ehrlich’s legacy. Bob Ehrlich has managed to erase a $2 billion deficit and not rape the taxpayer in the bargain.
Blackwater Resort Has A Friend In Rich Colburn
A bill designed to block the proposed 3200 unit development south of Cambridge will fail if Rich Colburn has anything to say about it. - Daily Times
Values vs. Economics
Will Vehrs of Commonwealth Conservative has an extremely interesting post about social issues vs. economic issues. Just as interesting is Lucy Jones comment on the post.
