We are almost beginning to sympathize with the folks at VOICE. We recently agreed to get involved in the budgeting process and see if any of the folks here could come up with some ideas to reduce spending at the Wicomico County Board of Education and the Wicomico County Government. The depth to which Wicomico County will go to hide its fiscal ineptitude is amazing. Read more

Before DuvaFiles Monday post about the possibility of Mike Dunn running a stealth slate for County Council I had started a piece about what was needed for the next County Council. The notion of a Dunn / Tilghman / Greater Salisbury Committee / ? orchestrated slate to take over Wicomico County Council makes this even more urgent. Read more

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s blog has a post about the Gazette‘s annual best and worst list for the General Assembly. Not surprising was Lowell Stoltzfus’ entry as one of the most effective senators. Equally not surprising was Richard Colburn’s entry as the second least effective member of the Senate.
Somewhat of surprise was Wicomico’s Norm Conway only making number 2 on the list for the House. How does the chairman of the Appropriations Committee get beaten out by anyone but the speaker?

Teddy Kennedy has really gone over the bend with the Alito nomination. During his little filibuster attempt Teddy had a little hissy fit in the well of the Senate. He wanted to know why the Senate couldn’t debate the nomination more.
Where were you on Saturday and Sunday Teddy? If you wanted to debate the nomination further then you had the opportunity. For some unknown reason, Majority Leader Bill Frist was conned into holding off a cloture vote until Monday afternoon.
Of course we know that the desire to debate had nothing to do with it. The Federal Courts are the last Liberal / Democrat stronghold in government. Teddy doesn’t want debate, he wants obstruction. The height of left wing hypocrisy is evident in this quote from Kennedy during the Clinton administration:
The president and the Senate do not always agree [on judicial nominations]. But we should resolve these disagreements by voting “yes” or “no.” – NewsMax.com
While the Republican controlled Judiciary Committee was guilty of obstructionism during the Clinton Administration by refusing to hold hearings, two wrongs don’t make a rightl. Perhaps the Republicans have learned their lesson. The left wing of Senate Dems surely have not.

Wednesday the House of Delegates will hold a hearing a proposed legislation to require Maryland’s electronic voting machines to produce paper receipts. According to Del. Sheila E. Hixson, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and sponsor of the measure -
“We must pass this bill so the trust and confidence of voters who are concerned about our new system can be restored,” she said.
Where was Ms. Hixson’s concern when the House overrode the governor’s veto and made voter fraud in Maryland as difficult as driving from one precinct to the next? – from Maryland Moment

It’s about time. After placating the likes of John Kerry, the Senate has invoked cloture and ended “debate” on the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the U. S. Supreme Court. The vote was 72 – 25 in favor of cloture.
The Left believes that they have a campaign issue in this one. Their foolish behavior over Judge Alito is going to come back and bite them hard in November. Not only do the majority of Americans support Judge Alito’s confirmation, many who don’t still think that he didn’t deserve the vitriol cast at him by the likes of Ted Kennedy.
