Wicomico county clearly needs to build another high school.Sources say that there is available county owned land in Willards for a school building near the elementary school, and there are ample enough students from the eastside to fill a high school in that sector. At the same time,Bennett needs to go!My mother, who is in her fifties, recently commented to me that Bennett is virtually unchanged from when she attended school there in the 1960’s!!somebody has to get the ball rolling on this! The landlords and developers saturating our area with dense housing send their own kids to private schools,so they certainly have no real interest or compulsion to do anything to address the school overcrowding conditions
MJ - If you’re not already, I hope that you will be attending City and County council meetings whenever possible. The same goes for those who share your sentiments.
MJ - definitely attend the City and County council meetings as much as you can! Speak up if you can…and bring your mom! So good to see new “faces” coming out on the blogs, at the meetings, and in the Letters to the Editor. When you do, other citizens are encouraged to do so. Thanks for being here!
I agree with everything you’re saying about needing a new school. However when it comes to “your definition” of dense developments you should start using the facts. Lets use the Hearne property as an example. You may call this a dense development by looking at the surface of it, but according to local zoning law that development can accomodate twice the amount of homes that Mr. Davis is trying to build there. I don’t necessarily think the development is a good idea, but it is hardly a densely designed project. Part of “our” whole initiative is to have better accomodations for our children but if we are going to take stand then we need to be better educated before we speak out.
And your comments about builder’s/developers children attending private schools, isn’t necissarily true. Yes, some of them do attend private schools, but i happen to know of at least 15-20 children (none of which I’m friends of their family, but just using the facts) of builders/developers that do not attend private schools, and that doesn’t include those I don’t know of. I’m not trying to stop anyone from posting their opinion, but to try to get opinions using the facts instead of speaking from emotion.
