In the beginning of this country only male, white, landowners could hold office. Thankfully, that is no longer the case, however, one of the points behind the reasoning was that an office holder should not be a professional politician, that his political office should be secondary to his primary job. That point has long been forgotten to the detriment of this country. I believe that all national office should be limited to one term. In and out, therefore, no need for lobbys and special interests. No need to sell your vote to get re-elected. No more spending $20M to run for office. No more pensions. Only people with a genuine interest in performing a bona fide public service will run. Not that he’s perfect but Page Elmore seems to me to fit this bill. He made his money in the private sector and retired, however, he still has many fruitful years and has decided to spend them serving the community in which he made his living. No special interest agenda. That’s the kind of person we need. A person who ran a company, knows how to get things done, and then takes office not to enrich himself. Until term limits are established this country will continue to spiral down into a cesspool of scandals and unaccountability.
