“Daily Times†Advances Nothingness
Filed under: Development, Maryland, Media, Salisbury Politics
In the past I have tried to save my criticism of the “Daily Times†to the dinner table or a round of beers with some friends. Unfortunately, I can’t control my disdain any longer.
Sunday’s front page included an “article†entitled “Salisbury Advances Growth Initiativesâ€. I put “article†in quotes, because it sounded more like a press release from the Committee to Re-Elect Mike Dunn. Evidently, the editors are not too proud of the piece, since they left it out of their online edition.
The piece begins with, “It is unknown how long the freeze on large-scale annexations will last.†This presumes that there is a freeze on any type of annexation. Can someone please tell me when Salisbury last refused to annex a piece of property?
We are then treated to a rehash of last Sunday’s article “Backers of Smart Growth Rejoiceâ€. Mike Dunn is going to hire some consultants. Mike Dunn is going to fund the schools with city funds. Mike Dunn is going to implement an APFO for Salisbury. Hallelujah! Mike Dunn has solved all of our problems.
I am quite sure that Mike Dunn will get council to hire some consultants. I also won’t be surprised if one of those consultants is a client of his. The paper states that this supposed APFO will force developers to contribute funds for transit, public safety and public infrastructure. An APFO doesn’t do that. An APFO is a control mechanism. Now they may enact an APFO and have impact fees to go along with it. However, don’t be surprised if those fees will only apply to future construction. I doubt the thousands of units already in the pipeline for Salisbury (Aydolette Farms, the old Mall, Hearne, etc.) will pay a nickel of any city imposed impact fees.
The “Daily Times†should be ashamed for publishing such rot. If some politician held a press conference and announced, without any evidence, that there was a cure for AIDS; would the media print it with such an uncritical eye? I doubt it.
What is their motivation? Perhaps Mike has video of the managing editor in bed with a dead woman or live boy? Who knows?

IT’S WHAT THEY DON’T SAY, TOO
No mention of the 820 unit project proposed for the old “Salisbury Mall” — or that tonight the City Council will hold a public hearing on the rezoning of the site to allow it to occur.
im with you-Mike Dunn is either greasing the palms of someone very important at the Times office,or he has evidence of them greasing something or someone else-ever tried to get a letter or even a grapevine published if it is critical of him?i would love for someone (hint, hint) to do a background check on Dunn just to see(prove)what he really is.He is drinking buddies with all the landlords and developers,so theres got to be some bones in the back of his closets
