Don’t miss DuvaFiles and their take on the Wicomico County Council meeting.

Is It A Victory … or a Strategic Withdrawl
Victory at last!
The Wicomico County Council appears to have agreed on an APFO, a school impact fee and then to try for excise taxes. We should all be thrilled, right?
First, let’s see what comes to fruitition. If County Council does implement these plans I think we should all thank them. However, as [...]
Where’s Mikey?
I haven’t figured out yet how Mike Dunn is going to take credit for the actions of County Council. We’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m willing to bet that Bozo and the Brigade all had long faces Tuesday. It appears that County Council will actually do something while Barrie and Mikey have [...]
Where Will All The Children Go?
Lee Owens‘ letter in Tuesday’s Daily Times is right on point. Until Wicomico County and Salisbury can find solutions to infrastructure funding, do we need to keep up this frenetic pace?

If You Bring A Camera, They Will Come
How long will the so-called “inspection sweeps” last? As long as Barrie Tilghman and Mike Dunn can get their names and pictures in the paper.
Will they actually clean up our neighborhoods? Past experience says no, but eventually they have to get one right (even when it is not their intention).

Speak Softly and Don’t Bring A Sign
Monday night Salisbury Council voted to modify their Rules of Procedure to prohibit signs. Fair enough. They could be a fire hazard if the crowd was big enough. But please don’t lecture us on decorum.
“The council arrived at their normal time to be greeted by all these protest signs,” Dunn said Monday. [...]
How Much Do You Want To Spend?
No question, Katrina was devastating. I don’t think that there are many people who would dispute that we need to help those impacted by the storm. But at some point a dollar figure must be placed on our innate to desire help. The “New York Times” discusses the costs of re-building the [...]
A Victory For Education?
This “New York Times” editorial discusses the recent suit brought by the NEA against President Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” act. It unfortunately begs a far greater question?
Why is the federal government involved in education to begin with? This is another example of a “conservative” making Lyndon Johnson look like Barry Goldwater. [...]
They Do It At Other Schools
One (and I repeat, only one) of the issues that came up during the recent debate over the the 4-3 housing legislation in Salisbury was loud parties put on by SU students living off-campus. Newark, DE seems to have a solution. From the “News-Journal“

We’d Rather React Than Discuss
Salisbury Council met again last night. After all of the press conferences, the newspaper articles, the secret meetings – has anything changed? Don’t bet on it.

Drunken Democrat?
While this piece from “RedState.org” could be amusing, the fact that it’s true is heart breaking. Worse yet, it’s not just the “moderates” that are spending like there’s no tomorrow. It’s also members of Congress that ran as conservatives.

The War of Ideas
The two great politcal wars of our time were fought and won with ideas. Margaret Thatcher revolutionized British politics to the point that today’s Labor Party is more conservative than the pre-Thatcher Tories. Ronald Reagan showed the world that America was still great and would win the Cold War.

A Hero Falls
Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-CA) resigned his seat in the U. S. House today after pleading guilty to tax evasion and conspiracy charges. This is truly a sad day for America. Former Rep. Cunningham was a fighter ace and hero of the Vietnam war. While he is not the first congressman [...]
Canada’s Liberal Government Falls
The Liberal Party government lead by Prime Minister Paul Martin failed on a confidence vote Monday. While the ideology may be different, perhaps our GOP Congress can learn some lessons.

Medicaid v. the Democrats
I have been dismayed by the GOP’s desire to drastically cut aid to the poor while insisting on keeping pork barrel projects intact. The problem is that something must be done about entitlements.
It appears that the national Democratic party has missed another opportunity to show some vigor against an anemic GOP congress.
